There is still hope!

Hi everyone.

I opened the incubator yestersay to find an egg had softened in preparation for hatching. It had been incubating for 58 days. I was so excited. I was patient and checked on it in the evening and it still had not hatched so I gently prodded the egg and there was no movement. I decided to open the egg as it seemed obvious that the hatchling had died. It was such a beautiful hatchling and colours that I had never hatched out before so I decided to lay her on paper towel and take a pic. When I picked her up to examne her I noticed that her heart was still beating! I immediately put her back in the incubator so she can stay warm. I am holding out hope as I have had a very week hatchling (just lay limp after hatching) that got up after 24 hours of just laying there and was absolutely fine! It never had any problems and is a healthy juvenile now.

I checked on her this morning when I woke up and her heart is still beating!!!!:D Poor little thing wants to live. I know the chances are not good but I hope she makes it like the other one did. I will let you know what happens.

Here is a picture of her that I took before I realised that her heart was beating. Can anyone tell me what morph this is?

Thanks Richie. That's what I thought too. Mom is a Bell Albino and Dad is a Patternless. Is a Mack Snow posssible from that combination?

Thank you for your kind words. Unfortunately my little girl did not make it. She lasted about 22 hours! I so wish that she had made it but it was just not meant to be:sad2:

Oh man-that sucks
I am sorry that the little one didn't make it but as you said-these things usually happen for a reason

That doesn't make it any easier on you but perhaps it saves us from further grief when they die early on instead of dealing with the loss of an older baby or a juvie that was never quite right

No matter what age-the loss of one of these guys always leaves a hole in our heart

Thank you so much everyone.

Sandy, I think you're right. I would have hate for it to make it and suffer until dying.

The good news is that the clutchmate hatched and is absolutely fine! This clutch was the last eggs I had from the season. No more eggs in the incubator now. Will just keep myself going by reading all the posts on here about everyones new hatchlings!

Glad to hear you had the blessing of a healthy clutchmate! While it doesn't soften the heartache much, new, healthy babies always make me smile. :)

Congrats on your new little one! Can't wait to see pics!

Sorry to hear about the preemie. It seems like the last eggs of the season are always the most likely to have problems. I think sometimes the females are just depleted by the end of the season so maybe the last little one didn't get enough of whatever it needed to be healthy.
