Thermostats

I recently built a Hatchling Rack system.

I am installing about 24' of heat tape in it and I got some clips for them, and a chord to rig it.

Now I need a thermostat.

Question is...

Can you all suggest the best bang for my buck. I am trying to get off easy on the price, but i realize anything is an investment. Any suggestions would rule pretty hard.

Thanks yall

If you have extra money I would spring for a Helix DBS-1000(My personal favorite), or any of the Higher End Herpstat Models. But if you are on a tighter budget a the Herpstat Basic is only $109.00.

This is kind of off topic for your post, bt can you post some pics of your rack? Was it the one from Tamara Locks Guide? The 12 shelf or 8 shelf one?

Do you have the dimensions of the wood that needs to be cut for the 9 shelf rack? It honestly looks amazing and I will be building the exact one this weekend.
Thanks for the pics!

May i suggest that you do not use the clips. IMO it is best to soder all connections.

I would also recommend the Helix DBS-1000

I could solder it I suppose, but how? What is wrong with the clips exactly? they seem very safe and foolproof to me.

thanks!

The clips dont alaways stay in contact with the flexwatt due to the fact you have to crimp them. Also it is just an added expense that you dont really need. Soldering the end, if you know how to solder is IMO the best way to go. Just my opinion

I use the Herpstat and it is awesome. I have the basic $109.00 model from Bean Farm. Temps stay within .5 of my target area and easy to program. It has a grounded plug. I also plug all my Reptile and computer stuff into surge protectors.

can someone please explain exactly why the helix is the better unit? If I am going to pay the extra $40 I wanna make damn sure it is for a good reason.

Helix and Herpstat are both about the same, they have all the same functions. i have used both and they are both great, probably the best 2 thermostats around. When i buy more it will be herpstat because of the lower price. I got my herpstat from Nature's Spirit at nsreptiles.com for $120 shipped and was delivered to me 3 days after I paid for it.
