Although I think GIMPShop (Free) should be able to handle it as well.

The following is for photoshop, but I would think gimpshop would have a similiar method (I haven't used it in a few years): You want to add an adjustment layer for 'Levels', and then use the 'white balance' color picker, click on something pure white, and ti should take care of the rest.

As for brightness, I looked at your manual for the camera and when shooing you want to click the up arrow (has a little +- triangle thing by it), and then click the right arrow until you're about +1-+1.5, then click set to make it stay. It's page 13 if you have the manual handy:

Thats the button I was using, the +/- button. I thought it was the white balance button.

I have Photoshop CS2, just haven't used it much. I am going to try again tomorrow, playing around with the settings.
