Hey all,
This is my first time posting outside of the classifieds and just wanted to say Hi to all. I guess I will get right into it.
I have this leopard gecko that is a bit on the thin side that I am going to try to get healthy again. He wont eat mealworms and I feed my geckos primarily mealies so keeping him healthy has been a bit of a challenge. I am very dedicated to getting him healthy so that I can find him a good home.
He didnt have the greatest start at life so it is possible that some of his health issues can be attributed to that. He spent about 4 months living in a closet after he went missing. Possibly feeding on spiders/random bugs he found, who knows. Once he was found he was diagnosed with parasites(not sure what kind) and treated for those. Ever since then he has gone up and down in weight but never really reaching a stable, healthy weight.
Today, he is about 6 inches long and weighs 32grams. For the past couple of weeks I have been feeding him 5-6 dusted/gutloaded crickets a day. Also giving him waxworms once a week. And plan to treat him with a pinky, which he loves, sometime soon.
Assuming he has no other issues, how long would it take to get him healthy again(rough estimate)?
I have never had issues with other leopard geckos like this so not sure... guessing a few months?
I havent gotten any fecal tests done so should I do that right away or wait and see if he puts on weight? His feces do have a little bit of an odor, which was a definite indication of the parasites he had last time but its not really that strong. Im guessing he could have a slight parasite load or maybe that is the way his feces smell. I know with my other geckos, their feces all smell a little bit different so I dont know. (Wow what a gross couple sentences) Since Ive been feeding him crickets his feces have looked a lot better.
I do have some panacur, its a liquid that is used for horses that can be used in small amounts for geckos. Ive used it before I just cant remember how to dose it...
His color does look a little dull, might be an indication that something is wrong?
He is eating great. Absolutely loves crickets, waxworms, and pinkies.
His tummy might look a little fat because I just fed him.
First is a picture today(sorry not the greatest pic), second one from a while ago:
Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
Michelle
