Horizontal blinking. Eyes are supposed to blink vertical. The eyelids are rotated 90 degrees. Imagine your eyelids opened left and right, not up and down. I don't know the scientific term.

Eyelids are supposed to be horizontal.....:main_yes:

Why yes, they are! LOL! I meant vertical....Thor said horizontal and I....well, you get it. They look like they are on the right and left side of the eye as opposed to the top and bottom.....Am I seeing that right?????

Horizontal...vertical...whatever....My point is, the eyelids aren't where they are supposed to be! That's crazy looking!:main_rolleyes:

Now that is a first to me!! Isn't it crazy what a little temperature fluctuation can do.... I just checked the incubator and found a 90% striped Snow snake eyed raptor with jacked up eyelids.... it's so disappointing isn't it??

mother geckos that suffer from vitamin A defficiency(sp) are usually the cause of the crinkled eyelids...maybe not always, but most of the time.

It can be that or a temperature fluctuation. I sometimes think the combination of the two can play a part...the thing is, you can't always know that there's nothing genetic behind it...I've seen more messed up eye hatchlings this year than in awhile, and I can't help but wondering...

The positive thing is at least this baby has two whole eyelids on each eye. =)
To me it actually just looks like there's a gap in each upper eyelid, in the middle...not so much a rotation.

Where have you heard this? I am just trying to figure out this theory. I know eye infections can be caused by a lack of vitamin A but haven't heard the the mother being low in vitamin A causes eye deformities "most of the time." Did someone hatch out a bunch of hatchlings with eye deformities and then test the mother for vitamin deficiency?

If someone else who knows more about this could chime in then that would be great.

Vitamin deficiencies shouldn't be an issue. All of my breeders have calcium/vitamins available year round.

I had an issue with the power going out several times this year. Also discovered the placement of my incubator was not as resistant to temp fluctuations in that room as I thought. Lesson learned, and next year I will be in the new house and have a dedicated room and be able to eliminate the problem.

He/she has to be the most mellow hatchling ever. It looks like the right eye does just have a gap. The left eye is the curious one. It hinges wrong making it look freakish when it blinks both eyes at the same time.
