I have a new leo hes great, this is my first gecko, and my boyfriend doesn't like the way his tank looks. He has the idea of making a "habitat" for my little buddy. The issue I have is he wants to use Styrofoam and carve moutains and rocks into them. He said hed use styrofoam for the shape and then use "organic paint" to coat the styrofoam. He said it wont hurt my gecko but I just dont want anything bad to happen to him. Is styrofoam actually "gecko safe"? If styrofoam is a bad idea are there any other materials that may be more gecko safe?

Thanks all!!

A lot of people here like making do it yourself hides out of styrofoam. They end up sealing them with grout then painting them with non-toxic paint :)

Styrofoam is fine, another option is expanding foam (Great Stuff, Handi-foam, Beckett pond foam, etc.). I know some people have used painted styrofoam, but my suggestion is to coat the styrofoam in a thin coat of grout first, that will give a more durable and natural looking finish.
