Cool little gecko, Brittney! I have hatched several snake-eyed animals out of my SnowGlow project, and there are no raptor genes in them either. Several people have hatched out both Rainwater and Tremper Blazing Blizzards, and Mack Enigmas with varying amounts of solid pigment in the eyes, too. There's definately some interesting stuff going on with the eyes, but it's not always due to the eclipse gene. Good luck with that little one!

thanks for sharing your experience, Jason. Thats really interesting...

I've actually been in contact with several breeders working out the lineage on this little one... and I can safely say that up to ... at least... 4 generations back... no eclipse/raptor genes are present, nor have any aptor/raptor type animals ever been produced from their groups.

I have to agree with Jason ... sometimes eyes just do weird things. Who knows...

WOW!!!

It looks very raptor'ish... but testbreeding with a raptor should solve the miracle - very interesting project :main_thumbsup:! Maybe it's something totally different! Good luck with this little screamer :D - he/she is so adorable!
I love that last pic :D!

You've got me stumped Brittney. Such a cool looking baby though, no matter what. The faint pattern is interesting. Should be really fun watching that one develop ;)

I say it isn't the eyes that make it look like a mack raptor project animal but the patterning. Why can't both parents be carrying the traits that unlock the eclipse eye trait. It's common knowledge that stripe genes crossed make the eclipse eye trait, so no raptor genes need to be present in the lineage to make an eclipse eye.

no matter what the genetic make up of that mack tremper, it's an awesome hatch and congrats.

Thanks so much everyone! I'm going to get some better shots of the eyes tonight and post em... :) The pattern looks a little different too, after being out of the egg for a full day and all. hehe :D

As far as test breeding, I'll cross 'it' with a RAPTOR next year to see what I get... should be interesting.

Paul, I'm not sure what you mean about stripes, etc? Both of the parents of this little one are banded, as were their father. The adult breeders mothers were different, both SS het Tremper. so... I'm not sure why or how I got that weird striped pattern!

crazy odd ball...

Brittney, I am unsure how many generations an animal can be a carrier of a stripe trait, but many a banded animal can throw a jungle pattern or an oddball stripe when bred to another banded tremper. RT was working on the aptor/ raptor project long before he premiered them, so MAYBE it's possible they are carrying that trait. Stripes are not a simple recessive as we know, but I do believe they are a line bred polygenetic trait of which I am not qualified to explain fully.

I am sure a few people in your "circle of friends" can explain the stripe traits and how the Tremper albino strain is unpredictable at times with patterning due to the original aptor project.

I can say that it was Golden Gate Geckos that produced the great-great-grandfather of this little gecko. I got him as a sub-adult in April 2004 from another well-known breeder who didn't even have a website back then. He was a gorgeous (for the time) Tremper Hybino, that came from parents that were produced directly from Ron Tremper. He is the founder of my Hybino/Sunglow line... 5 generations ago... before or around the time Ron Tremper introduced his RAPTOR line.

So let's day that this male 'by remote chance' was a het for RAPTOR (unknown genetics at the time). That would make his offspring 50% possible hets. Those offspring were crossed with a VERY tangerine colored reverse stripe, with no known RAPTOR influence, which would make them 66% and 33% possible hets. One of those offpring was sold to another well-know breeder who crossed them into his Mack Snow line. So those babies would be at best, 33%. So now we have a mystery gecko that looks a LOT like a Mack Snow RAPTOR! Whoot!!!

So.... how 'bout some of you genetice 'experts' do the math and give us some genetic probabilities as to what this little one is?

Here's the great-great grandpa:

Thanks for your post Marcia!

It's really neat to be able to trace the lineage of this little one back ... what, 4 generations? pretty cool stuff!

I'm excited to possibly have a mack raptor here... man, what a surprise!!! I'd also like to hear from some genetics folks about the probability of what this one is, too. :)

Marcia, good I may be, but expert I am not. I said all I can geneticly and think that Brit did indeed hatch a mack raptor the hard way. The hard way meaning without the "raptor genes" persay, but with stripe x reverse stripe , the tremper gene and mack gene.

The one thing that throws a wrench in the gears is that this is the only non banded mack tremper from the cross:main_huh:

Get that gecko ready to test breed fast please Brittney, I really want to know if I am remotely correct in my thinking or just a dreamer:D

BTW, that's a great sunglow (HYBINO) by today's standards to MOGL.

just for fun... these are the parents. These photos are from at least 6 months ago... but they still have all the same colors and patterning.
