Those little gray incubators? MR-148 etc.

Had a couple questions I couldn't find through search for those who use them.

First is there a default temperature set on these when you turn the units on/off? Or does it store your settings in memory in the event of power loss? I need to set up a controlled night drop for one of my species, trying to figure out if it would be possible to attach a timer on one of these units.

For those of you that use these for your leopards etc... near the low 80s. Are you using an additional proportional thermostats? Or has the one included proved to be sufficient with in a degree or two? Need to set up a small incubator a hint cooler than I keep my female leopard eggs.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be wonderful. Thanks in advance for your time.

I'm using the reptipro 5000 which is probably similar if not the same as the MRP 148.

I haven't done experimentation with default temp, though it's possible that it will revert to the last setting

I am incubating fat tail eggs and leopard gecko eggs. I have the incubator set at 88, it's showing 86 on the display and I have a thermometer with probe inside the container reading around 83.5. The fat tail egg container (I'm using the SIM) is on the top shelf and my leo container is on the bottom of the incubator. As I understand it, there's about a 2 degree difference between the top and bottom which I'm taking advantage of because I want both species to incubate for female and the fat tails need it a bit hotter. You may get the differential you want by using both the top and bottom of the incubator.

I'm not using any additional thermostats and the fluctuation is similar to last season when I used a hobovator with proportional thermostat.

I hope that's helpful.

I have the lllreptile incubator you are talking about. I have it set at 90,display reads 90, the tops shelf reads 87 with a digital therm and the bottom reads 83 with a digital therm. not sure if this helped you out at all. I like the incubator and I have had success with it this year with no problems so far knock on wood.

I have an MR-148 from LLL, and a little over a week ago it stopped heating. The lights are on, the fan is on, but the heater doesn't seem to be blowing any heat. I have no reason to think this a common thing, but there it is.

Thanks for the info every one. Glad to hear they've worked out for most of you.

If anyone knows whether these units revert to a default temperature when turned off and on, please let me know. I thought about hooking one up to a night drop thermostat, but with the heating and cooling funtions on these units, it just might not be possible. Still hoping to find away to take seasonal temperature swings out of the equation...

Kevin, yeah I've heard the same thing happens alot with the thermoelectric wine coolers etc...It seems like every now and again one's just a bit of a lemon. Have you tried returning or exchanging it? Hope the eggs make it!

I've tried to return it, but they are back-ordered.

You might be interested to know that they asked me to turn it off for 30 minutes to let it "reset". It didn't work, but I think it came back on at the temp I set it for. In fact, just for you, I will try it again. Gimme 45 minutes and I'll have an answer for ya.

Alright, I turned it off and unplugged it for 45 minutes, and it was set on the same thing when it turned as when I turned it off. I don't know if this is what you were hoping for, but there you go.

Awesome! Thanks Kevin, that's just the info I was looking for! I'll let you know how it works out. Hope you get things sorted out with your unit.
