In my case I had clean carpet down already, so I put tile over the carpet. Some gecko homes got tile / carpet combinations. Just a little break up on looks. take care. HJ

I used a piece of slate. i found my gecko didnt come out as much.. when i came to give it all a clean, i decided to go for paper again, now hes out and about..
Think i may stick to it.
Just suppose it what works best for you.

Mine hated paper towel. I use slate in all mine. The cold side never gets cold to the touch

I originally used carpet, but after about a week and a half I noticed that it was holding odor (I have a heightened sense of smell... no one else noticed it besides me:main_laugh: ) and so I ditched the carpet for a ceramic tile approach. My gecko actually became more active on the tile and now spends a great deal of time out and about in the evenings. My temperatures are maintaining better as well, an even 91-92 on the warm side and a pretty constant 76-75 on the cool side, without using a thermostat.

I suppose it's just a gecko's preference as to what substrate they are more comfortable on.
