To Buy or Not To Buy...

THAT is the question.

So basically, on Craiglist I posted that ad or what have you, on wanting a Crestie.
Well, instead I got an email from a woman or man saying their kids don't take care of or lost interest in their gecko and they're selling him.

He's a normal...I think.

Alone, he's $50, but with all his supplies he's $75.

He would come with a 20 gallon tank with a screen top, a heat mat, some substrate, a rock hide and a water dish.

I just wonder. Should I take him in, or shouldn't I?

Here's a picture of him. He's sure a cutie. But if I do breed, I'd probably only get normals. But that shouldn't be important. I'd just like to rescue this guy.

Help with a decision?

Ask for more of a recent photo or tell them to take a picture of the leopard gecko now. A lot can change in 6 months to a leopard gecko.

You should also ask them questions about the heat and feeding. Because if they didn't heat their leopard gecko properly something can be wrong with them.

Well, not necessarily......when I adopted Kobayashi off of craig's list in September of this year, the boy had her on sand and had no UTH, only a light from above which was on during the day. As her name dictates, this girl had one hell of an appetite and still does!

By the way, this guy is way cute.

Well the owner says his heat mat would come along with him. So I assume he's heated.
Not to mention I guess they've had him for about 4 years, except for the sand he looks to be well taken care of.

He looks pretty healthy in that photo. Hopefully the mom will take your questions as a good thing and send you a current pic. I think it shows that you would be a careful and thoughtful owner.

I have a normal male I "rescued" about 4 1/2 years ago from a small pet shop that was getting out of reptiles (he was the last one). Although he is in with a female, he doesn't really breed and is not part of my breeding programs. It's perfectly fine to breed him; you could always breed him to an albino, patternless, blizzard, etc. and get hets and then breed the babies to each other if you want something other than normal, or you could get a Mack SS and then all your babies would be Macks. If you're really interested in him, I would go for it (I got my beardie from craigslist).
