To be perfectly honest I am not 100% sure what all of that says, but how about you take a picture so we have a good idea of what your setup is looking like now? :) Geckos don't exercise as much as some animals, and they like small spaces (so their hides can be smaller than you might think); and once he's tame, if he seems like he's too energetic with nowhere to go, you can let him out of the cage regularly and set him in a safe, supervised place to walk around and get a change of scenery.
My own leo has a 10-gal with four hiding spots, and he just walks around on top of things where there's no floor space. ;)

I use a large flat tubberware, that way they can still climb on top

Climbable hides like this actually increase the available space, I'd say, as the leo can sit inside or walk around on the "second story." You can also get creative with the arrangements if things won't fit -- one of my cool-side hides is just a little crawl space under the water dish, made by stacking a few leftover slate tiles under both sides of the dish to raise it up. He periodically gets the idea that it's a little too small and tries to dig more room, but luckily the dish is too flat and heavy to tip over. :main_laugh:
