I firgured I would post this since I never really thought much of this until now. So doing my rounds on the Leo's tonight and noticed what looked like blood on the papertowel. Turns out Twigg injured a toe! Racking my brain as I know she did not have shed on her toes when she shedd about 1.5 weeks ago. I ALWAY check her cause she has had issues with eating the moist hide substrate while shedding. And I feed last night and her toes were fine!!!

After sitting here thinking like what the hell happened I think I figured it out. I think she got he toe/s stuck in the holes in the reptile hammack! I have noticed in the past that when I pick her up off the hammack her little toes hang on...well she's getting to a size now that she may get the toes into the holes but not out! Also the blood is right under the hammack in the tank!

Here are some pictures of her toe. She is definitly going to lose part of it! I cleaned it with a little bit of a soak and put some Neosporin on the toe with the injury and the one next to it that looks a little irritated.

Made up a tub tonight with clean paper towel and she is seperated from Bonnie. Question is with it being friday tomm. Do you think I am safe to wait this out with keeping clean or is this a emergency vet trip? I guess Im concerned as it looks like bone sticking out the top..like the toe was de-gloved. Any other suggestions as I have NEVER had a injury.

I feel horrible that I didn't think about the dangers of these hammacks till now..its sooo obvious now! So if others can learn from my mistakes then its worth the post!!

Not your fault by the way, many people have hammocks including myself. I am not saying it's not possible but it looks way too injured. I worked in Dermatology and I am use to seeing skin and injuries. Could her toe been sticking out the hammock and another leo mistaken it for food? Looks a bit bad but as long as you keep it clean and lubed up it might heal well without infection. Don't feel bad, accidents happen.

No Im 99.999% sure it was the hammack because I routinely have to detach her feet from the hammack when I go in to pick her up. Like I said its SOOO obvious now, thats why I feel bad! I can very well see that if her toe was in that hole and swelled to the point she couldn't get it out then she struggled to the point of de-gloving. I think this way because had Bonnie taken a bite she would have gone through the bone. Plus the hammack is way to high for Bonnie to see or get a toe sticking through.

So keeping it moist with neosporin is the best? Or do I let it dry out?

Oh, she must have extra tiny fingers, a girl thing I guess:) Yes, if you have peroxide, dilute it with half water. Keep pouring till it's not bubbling too much. Then apply neosporin. Try to wrap it with something if possible. Keep it greased up.

:main_laugh: I figured that. Nothing is going to stay on that tiny finger. Just keep cleaning it and applying the neosporin for 3 to 5 days. As long as the rest of the finger remains the same color she should be fine. If you notice the finger getting darker spreading above the wound or pus then she needs a vet.

It appears the gecko has been battered in addition to breaded. Either one or the other wasn't kneaded.

Mel, good luck with the toe. You're right that had it been bitten by another gecko, it would have been bitten off clean. I've had that happen. In my case it healed up fine with no intervention other than keeping the girl in a smaller tub, alone, changing paper towel daily. The protruding bone on Twigg's toe may need to be amputated. Poor little girl. Keep a close watch, and it would be a good idea to give your vet a call and prepare to take her in. Also, ask in the WCR group, someone there may have some additional advice.

Morgan Thank you soooooo much for making me almost wet my pants Im laughing so hard right now!!!!! :D and now reading your post Laney I KNOW i wet my pants LMAO!!! (jk) but I really got a very good laugh this morning!!

Got her in her own 15qt now and all Hammacks out of the 40gal viv. These hammacks are great addition to a tank but maybe only for adult Leo's who's toes are far to big to go thru those holes! And Im right with ya, plan on calling the vet as soon as they open this am!

Also what is the WCR group?

How is the little princess's finger looking? It hard to tell from the picture, I could on see what looks like roof of her nail and dried up blood, but if it's bone protruding it's definately a vet visit.

Now i know this may be undoable but can you use styptic powder or quick stop on leos, i know with other animals it can be used to prevent infection, sover the wound and some brands have pain relivers in them.
