Ever since I was 15 at our pet store I have fallen for the Tokay gecko. Although the ones we would get were wild caught and would meal on you in a heartbeat once you opened the lid they are just awesome in coloration and fun to observe. Anybody have pics we would like to see them. Thanks

I don't own any, but my personal experience with tokays that my friends and pet stores own is that they are all pretty much mean... very pretty, but definitely do-not-touch animals. And these are captive-bred animals, too! I do like this video of their namesake bark, though: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dR9tn0yNqQo

There are people out there that have handle able Tokay's. You just don't see any good pics of them because people think they are bottom of the rung geckos (I think the current going rate was $10-20 WC) when in fact they are a wonderful species to observe.

My favorite geckos. :D I own 14 adults. Lots of eggs incubating too. :main_thumbsup: These aren't the best pics, I have better ones but I just finished moving and haven't managed to find my USB storage stuff yet.

Taming tokays isn't all that hard. Wild caughts are freaked out and they're very skittish animals to begin with, Captive breds are a lot easier to handle, it just takes time and slow movements to earn their trust.

Whats the enclosure your using, like the Zoo Med naturals. Is that all glass with screen top?

They're Zilla Acrylic Atriums.

http://www.pangeareptile.com/store/zilla-fresh-air-acrylic-atrium.html

They're Acrylic, front-opening, have a screen top and a screen panel at the bottom front. I use them for single adults and pairs of hatchlings/juveniles. I really like them as they're light weight and fairly inexpensive. I would prefer that they were a bit bigger, the dimensions are too tight for adult pairs, but atm I just rotate a male between females so it works out. Once I get a few more morph males I'll be pairing up permanently and keeping pairs in 20in cube BARRS cages from herpcages.com.

Only one person has Tokays? Man do people hate the normal geckos or what. Heck I like just watching out house geckos in the 55 tall aquarium as they run around.

I thought about tokays, but I am moving away from species that need supplemental heat.

Ive been considering tokays for a while now, and space permitting I would like to get a CB baby or two. I'd like to try my hand at raising a handleable one.

They are VERY beautiful, and very large, and that's a winning combo in my book.
