This is the 2nd or 3rd year I've been breeding 6 female geckos. Last year, my live hatchling count topped out at 39, an amount I could easily handle. Though a lot more eggs were laid, there was a fairly high percentage of bad eggs and embryo deaths. This year, things are going much better than I expected. At about the halfway point in the season, I currently have 35 baby leos and 3 baby banded geckos in residence, 3 leos and 2 bandeds that have been sold and over 40 eggs in the incubator, not to mention the eggs still in the leos.
I am kind of overwhelmed. This is like getting 16 desserts on the same evening. I know this isn't much to you big breeders, but I'm starting to get worried about housing everybody. I do have a plan, and I'm sure it's all going to be OK, but this is a great example of "be careful what you wish for". I'm going to be thinking carefully next year about who and how many I'm going to breed.
