Hal and Mango's first clutch hatched several weeks ago. This little girl was the tiniest hatchling I've ever had. She was maybe 2 g and still had yolk attached. I wondered if she'd survive. She started eating, right on cue and has been a little pig ever since. :main_cool3:
Unfortunately, that wasn't the end of her problems. I found her one day with a wound on her arm. I'm not sure how it got there, but I believe I must have missed an uneaten cricket. Her hand was swollen, and the wound looked nasty. She was still 2g at this point. When Hal prolapsed, I got some pain/swelling medicine for him that the vet also had me use on an one of my girls who was badly bitten on the arm by another member of her breeding group. So I gave the hatchling just the tiniest fraction of a drop and it did a great job of reducing the swelling. I also treated the wound with antibacterial/antifungal ointment. It started to heal and looked much better!!
Still not done yet, though. As I was cleaning it up I noticed what looked like some retained shed on the wound. But, when I tried to remove it from her (she's maybe 4 g now), it looked like it was raw underneath, and I was afraid I was removing to much too soon. :worried2: So I decided to wait for her to shed again. In the meantime, her hand swelled again. After she finally shed, I could see that there was an armband of dried skin on there and I finally managed to get it off.
So after all that, she's up to 6 g - never stopped eating during this ordeal. Both the above pic and this one were taken yesterday. Her arm is almost good as new! :nice: She's one tough little cookie!
