I've been waiting for my last two U. milii eggs to hatch so I could turn off the last incubator for the season. One little one graced the world with it's birth on Sunday, but the other egg wasn't ready. Last night, the egg was very soft and starting to cave in, so I knew I would have a little sibling waiting for me this morning.

The first thing I did when I woke up at 6:40 this morning was to check for my new little U. milii. The egg had not hatched yet, so I decided to open it. The baby was fully formed... but dead.

I had a 100% hatch rate with my U. milii so far this year. My season ended with a dead baby...

Marcia, I am so sorry. We were just talking about that on the phone a few weeks ago, sorry you couldn't have that "perfect" season. At least you are done with the incubators.

Yea i had 2 perfectly healthy eggs that were laid 8/3/07
and were incubated for female, and 3 months later thay still look good, no dents, no mold, no bad smell, nothing visibly wrong, and they are or were fertile, but i asumed they just died in the egg, and i would open the 2 eggs up, but i have done it before, and man is it a horrible smell, i almost couldnt get that nasty smell out of my nose! So that sucks ur season had to end like that, best wishes for you next season Marcia.

So sorry Marcia. That's a sad way to end off the season. Is there an explanation for this happening. I had that happen with about four Leo hatchlings. The clutchmate hatches fine and all the conditions are the same but one dies. Is it just one of those things?

Oh, Marcia that sucks. I have the last leo we hatched for the season, I can send it to you to help ease the pain. ;) The last baby from my favorite Crested only got it's head out of the egg and was dead when I found it. The only one we lost this year and definitely not how I wanted her season to end. I'm sure there was a reason they didn't make it out of the eggs, we'll just never know.

I thought this had happened last season too? Look at it like you're a persian rug maker, who purposefully makes a mistake in the rug so it's not 100% perfect because only God is perfect. I know you didn't do it on purpose...but you catch my drift? You're still my MOGL. ((((Hugs))))

God works in mysterious ways ;)

Sorry to hear the last one didn't make it, but you have to be happy with your overall outcome :main_thumbsup:

Thanks guys. I honestly feel that when a baby dies in the egg, it's nature's way of culling weak or defected geckos. If they aren't strong enough to get out of the egg, they may not be strong enough to survive on their own. It just sucks that it was the last egg for the season!

i am very sorry for your loss, but i am pretty sure that it is better than if you had to cull it yourself if there were any serious problems.
