turning a half log into a humid hide - possible?

This is my current tank set up:

or at least it will be soon. For now, in your mind, take the half log out and stick a Tupperware container in that spot.

The half log in the middle I'd like to modify to use as a humid hide, but I don't know what to do with it.

I'm pretty new to the leo game, so I'm not 100% sure what all the needs are of the humid hide.

The log does absorb water, so I thought about spraying down the inside to keep humidity up, but I don't know :/
I also thought about attaching a bottom to it, like a sheet of plexi glass to the bottom of it and then placing a damp paper towel in it, similar to what I've been doing with the Tupperware.

advice?
or is this even possible?

I've had a half log in my 80-85% humidity hermit crab tank and have never had a problem with it growing anything or even smelling funky. (past the wet wood smell, but that wears off after a few days)
So I'm not really worried about it getting nasty.

You could try finding a tupperware container that fits inside the log.

I thought about that, but I don't know if I could find one that small that my gecko would have a comfortable enough room to move around in :/
I'd need one that fits like... a hot dog XD

I've pondered this too. I was thinking of fixing a bottom onto the log and then a back as well. Put some moss in and there you go. What I find more amusing is to get the novelty plastic hamster hides from the pet store and use those. My female is in a strawberry and my male has a birthday cake with a cherry on top.

................... Equating a reptiles hide area with things like "a comfortable enough room to move around in" is off. Proper hides are dark and TIGHT and not at all roomy/spacious.

I don't mean sprawl...
But enough room for her to go in one side and either come out the other, or be able to turn around.
I'm aware they don't need much room. I have a small reptile den that I didn't even think she'd fit in, but yet she's squeezed herself in there. BUT she can turn herself around in it.
What I'm concerned with is packing it so full of moss or whatever that she wont be able to fit herself.
If I find a container that fits under my medium sized half log, it's going to be TINY, and I don't know if I could pack it with enough adequate moss or papertowel to keep the humidity up. I'd worry that I'd have to chose between papertowel or lizard.

You have some good ideas. Currently my humid hides are old dip or butter containers. I cut a hole in it, but not the lid & use a match or lighter to smooth the edges. Then i fill it about 3/4 of the way with shredded damp paper towel. The lizard will fix it to his comfort.

The hole in the second picture is too big, but it still works. If its not "pretty" enough, then it can be covered with fake plants or something. Lol

If kept damp, the paper will kinda go flat, but it keeps humidity good.

That's actually pretty much exactly what I have right now :) except it's a tupperware container and not a recycled container.
I'm just wanting to use something more natural looking, and the half log is what I ended up with :p

I wish I wasn't so picky about the look of my tank... It would be 10X easier if I would just use the hot hide as my humid hide...but no. I realize that my hides go from a tropical log, to a dying log, to a desert cave. And I think that's ironic considering the progression from cool to hot :main_rolleyes:

Hahaha yeah I see what you mean. I just try to use stuff around the house because the bf is always like "Ah! We're always buying things for the lizards!!!" So I try not to buy stuff, if something equally adequate can be found around the house.
