Last week for the menu for Iggy was giant mealworms. So I go to a local pet store (no names) and ask a worker to get giant mealworms out the freezer in the back. The worker tells me to go to the lady. I go up to her and ask her for giant mealworms, and she picks up the superworms container and says here you go. I told her that these are not giant mealworms. She said I was wrong and these were giant mealworms. Maybe just cause I'm 13 doesn't mean she got to cheat me off for something. Then I was like fine can I have some mealworms. She brings me waxworms! By then I gave her the cold shoulder and walked out the store.

I did go to another local pet store (no names). They had their own refrigerator so I could see what was in it. I did find some giant mealworms there, but what sickens me is that there was a superworm container in there. And in BIG words it says do not refrigerate. I go ask one of the workers about it and they say we have no room to put the container.

Now this week I go to the store where I got my giant mealworms because I didn't want any bs again about insects. So this week was crickets for Iggy. I was roaming around the store seeing if they had crickets. I asked the manager (he had the tag on with big bold letters MANAGER) and I asked do you guys have crickets. He nicely responds yes, and asked me how many I wanted. I said, "25 large crickets please." He comes back with half of the crickets dead...so I asked why is half the crickets dead. He just responds saying that "lately our crickets are dieing for some reason." I told him I didn't want them anymore. So I just grab another container of giant mealworms.

On the good news, I can't wait to get 2 sunglows on Tuesday!!!!!!!!

That always happens up here...*rolls eyes*

I went in to get 200 small crickets..

20 minutes later someone comes up to the counter with about 20 large crickets...

I tell then, no, 200 SMALL.

20 minutes later, someone comes back with 20 small...By now I'm getting kind of frustrated.

Once again, tell another person...200 SMALL!!!!!

They bring up 200 large...my gosh!!!

So one more time, I tell them...200 SMALLLLL!!!!!

They bring up about 50 small, I'm like FINE, FINE!!!! I pay for 50 small, and grab two bags of large, about 20 each and tell the clerk...

"See these large crickets? I've waited an hour for small crickets..so now I'm going to take these crickets, and your not going to charge me for them"

He was all..."uhh, okay.."

Sooooo annoying!!!!

But they do usually have meal worms, giants, and supers in the fridge, along with wax worms, night crawlers, and earthworms...and it's pretty affordable ironically..

I can get 500 regular meal worms for a few bucks, so the last time I was there I got 100 giants and 500 regular haha.

That is pretty annoying, it's amazing how incompetant people are at so many places!! We have some pretty good workers at our local pet chain, at least a few of them are good. One girl there knows a lot about fish, reptiles, anything you need to know.. then there's another girl that really knows a lot about the fish.

One time I was there and we were buying some crickets and what not, and the female worker asks us what we're feeding. I said "we have a lot of leopard geckos" and she asked me how many.. it was like 20 or something, and I told her that we bred them. Some other co-worker (a guy) comes up and says "why are you talking about your 20 geckos, do you need something?".. I was like, "no, I was just answering her questions, SHE asked ME about what we had".. then I said "we breed them" and the little snotty kid said "you make sure they're big enough right?".. It REALLY irritated me to say the least. OF COURSE I make sure they're big enough, what do you think, we're breeding a bunch of 25-30 grams juvies? Grrrr.. I don't like that kid AT ALL. He walks around thinking he's better than everyone else, and why? Because he works there? I just don't get it.

my one coworker will do that. she can't be bothered to go check the fridge for mealworms. we don't always have them so she just gets lazy and tells people we don't have any.

on the other side we're out of small crickets (there's maybe 4 in there total) and there's a giant sign saying we're out yet people keep asking for them. "i'll have 5 dozen small crickets"... even after i explain that even if i gave them every piece of cricket in there that there's not enough they just stare at me like i'm supposed to pull them out of my ass. oh well...

I can't stand that crap, I hate going to the stores but i'm too lazy to order stuff off the net. I went to ***** the other week wanting to get some waxworms for treats. They had about 25 containers of them in the fridge, so i checked the first one....all dead, 2nd...dead, 3rd...dead, you get the idea. I checked every single one of them and MAYBE 2 were alive, MAYBE. They were all black and desicated, it was pathetic. I've noticed similar things with all of the worms, typically if i buy a 25-count superworm container there will be maybe 15 that are usable, rest are usually half eaten by the others.

On the super rare occation that I have to step foot in a chain store I always walk out of the place laughing to my self... When I go in it is usually because I ran out of superworms which almost never happens... Anyway, I usually order like 200 to get me through 2 days or so... The first question out of everyones mouth is "what the heck are you feeding???"... I tell them what I have as far as monitors and geckos and some little smartass worker always has something stupid to say... I am usually told that super worms can eat through the stomach of what ever eats it and that I should feed my animals wax worms because they have no mouth parts... LOL...

It is also funny how some tell you about all these crazy reptiles they keep that are seldom available and cost way more than they make in 6 months... LOL They always get latin names wrong and their hubandry suggestions are reliably wrong...

if they are giving you wrong information talk to them about the animals or at least speak to the manager. as someone who works in a big chain store i know just how hard it is to "be the expert" on the hundreds of species we sell. my store has over 200 species of fish alone. i do my best to educate myself and my coworkers about what we sell but i can't know everything about everything.

we're trained to be "pet detectives" and ask people about their animals because of stuff like what i encountered last night- a customer i met had an iguana and did not have UV lighting.

if you have misinformed employees let a manager know. these kids don't know they're misinformed, most of them are trying to be helpful and really do care about the animals.

There's one pet store in my area that has this creepy guy that always hits on my mom, gives us the wrong stuff and over dusts the crickets. He's been there forever and we've complained about him loads of times. He even was soliciting by trying to get us to use his "at home computer repair services". The unnamed massive chain store cares not so much that they have a creepy idiot selling reptile food. The unnamed massive chain store has another store pretty much right next to it that is much nicer and has staff that knows what they're doing. In fact I often have problems getting hold of their staff to get me the items I need because they're often busy talking to their customers about everything they need to know about the pet they're purchasing. That's fine by me, and I don't mind waiting because I know the staff is doing their job correctly.

I totally agree with ya...

for ex. i went to a local pet store to pick up a water dragon for my lil sisters birthday... the pet store sold me the complete set up... 1 month later i noticed the poor lil dragon was in a small tank 20 gallon and they dont know what glass is so they are constantly rubbing there nose on the glass as the same time i also noticed the dragon stopped eating after 2 weeks. i called the pet store explained with no response. or help. 2 weeks later i flipped out in the pet store and returned everything. poor water dragon was dieing slowly cause of 2 things #1 never put a water dragon in a glass enclosusre they will rubb there face till they catch a disease.. and #2 never use calcium sand they will eat it and die.

well after all was said and done my lil sister was very upset and now we have to go hunting for a new pet.

i was lucky enuff to at least get my dinero back. but ive seen plenty of others that just get screwed.

however lots of ppl who work at pet shops do love animals. unfortuntely not all are very experienced.
