so there is no gene mutation that cuases taillessness like manx cats?

Obviously, if this were a gene mutation, some might consider it unethical to breed.

People have done it by breeding manx cats and I would probably consider that slightly unethical. Some may argue that a cat can live just fine without a tail, but the tail serves a purpose. It is there for balance and maneuverability. The cats tail is one of the reasons they can almost always land on their feet.

I definitely agree on this, I cant stand to see cats without tails.. or with cut whiskers.. etc.

Actually, Manx cats don't have any balance or other types of issues. They can do everything that a normal cat can do. They sometimes have issues dropping poos because the tail helps with sphincter movements. Also, cats do not always land on their feet, although they do have good balance. Working in the veterinary field, its not uncommon for cats to fall, not land on their feet and hurt themselves. Theres no evidence that Manx cats have a disadvantage in this way. I don't really think that you can compare cats with lizards though, their morphology is pretty different. Cats don't store nutrients in their tails.
