Unusually long time

My eggs have been incubating at 80-82 degrees for 61 days and the one egg apears to be fertile for sure, but the other egg candles yellow, why hasn't the yellow egg died/caved in/molded. I have two other eggs from a different female that grew forests of mold after 2 weeks indicating that they are infertile. Whats the difference between the two (besides the fact that they are from different females)?? Also should my eggs be hatching soon. I'm so anxious. This is my second year breeding, last year my eggs hatched between 38-42 days.

I am nervously waiting as well...I'm on day 29 of a 90 deg. incubation...I just opened an egg I had for over 70 days that never caved in or molded. It doubled in size and turned translucent and never hatched. I swallowed my pride today and opened it. Poor thing stopped developing after about 2 weeks...saw the eyes and everything, so sad. I think the fact that you stated your eggs were from 2 different females might actually have something to do with it. And at 61 days I really want to say that you should be expecting babies soon, but of course that would envoke "Murphey's Law" which I am a BIG believer in. I've heard of temps that low go anywhere from 70 to 80 days (!) to hatch.

Keegan, sometimes incubating at that temp. can take up to 75-90 days, so just try to be patient :) Although, I have had several eggs seem to stay good (nice shell, no problems what-so-ever) but continue to candle yellow after 45 days incubating at 84 degrees. I am not sure as to why this happens, but sometimes they hatch anyway, and sometimes they do not (none have hatched for me yet, and we had 6 total). Many people (including me :)) will advise you just to continue incubating all eggs, even the yellow ones, until they are unquestionably bad

Thanks a ton guys. I am trying to hatch as many healthy eggs as possible this year. My Females are doing very well and one is gravid with her second clutch and the other with her third. Hopefully I will have little babies in no time!! I sure hope it doesn't take 75-90 days though!!

This year at 80 - 84 they took 67 to 72 days.
At 85 to 87 they hatched in 39 days......

Last year I had terminated eggs(temped for female in the bator) as you described with eyes and a bit more, when I finally opened them at 75 --- 80 days. ..... Last year I ended up with 2 hatchings from 12 eggs.
...............This year I decided to do females not in the incubator.
At this time I am 10 for 10 (100% hatchings) with currently 10 more eggs in line......I'm sold on this out of the incubator method.
.. take care. HJ

Hey, sorry I didn't see this earlier.....just noticed it tonight. I read where Albey did not put his female eggs in an incubator because he had a room that was always at the lower wanted temperatures. Since I had Lots of problems the first year of trying to hatch in the bator.......was 2 for 12 eggs.....I set up thermometers in a number of locations and found one that was very constant at 80 - 84. It was in a shower room that had a gas water heater...pilot light on all the time and a partial wall. I built a little shelf area to set the hatch containers (perlite, no holes in lids...also a Albey method) ..........and thats how I hatch the females this year....Which is 10 for 10 at this time with 10 eggs to go. ........I felt three things affect hatchings..

Not fertilized, fluctuating temps. and moisture...
...I do all three different this year. .......Take care. Happy hatching. HJ
