Using a water dish

For the life of me, I cannot get any of my geckos to use their water dish! I've tried all different kinds; small, big, deep, shallow. They just ignore it completely.

Anyways, anyone know of any way I could get them to show any interest in their water supply? Because I don't think they're getting enough water with just me misting them with water every meal

Why do you think they're not getting enough water? Just because you don't see them drink doesn't mean they don't when you're not around. ;P

Not to mention they get a lot of moisture from their food and humid hides(i can find mine licking th side of it.)

I agree with this. I commonly see my geckos licking the droplets of misted water or the damp paper towel.

Ive seen ONE gecko drink from the dish once. But I dont spend hours watching them - I'm sure they drink all the time.

lol mine does this too, like i caught him doing something hes not supposed to be doing.

But like everyone else said they do drink from the water dish more than you think you just dont actually get to see it i have seen mine drink water maybe twice..i also didint think my gecko ever moved but everytime i walk into the room he is in a different spot..sneaky little ninjas they are

I have also seen rango put his mouth in the water, just his lower jaw, when he had shed stuck to his lip, what a smarty.

I've been home for a couple weeks, and I sit and watch them a lot. I never see him go on the side with the water dish except when he's scared or when he's pooping. And whenever he goes in his humid hide, he stays for like half a second and goes right out.

Of course, when I post this, I catch him in his water dish and then he runs and hangs out in his humid hide for like an hour -.-

She did it during broad daylight! I think all the nudging her towards his dish and humid hide have finally payed off and she knows what they are now

I rarely see my geckos drink water, but I know they do. They will drink when they need to, whether you are watching them, asleep, or at school or work.

little confession (when i get a frisco burger from hardees, or carls junior up north) i take the deli cups set out for ketchup and whatnot and use it for water dishes. it's not very big so it makes me change it frequently and i just throw it out when it gets nasty. and i rarely catch one drinking from it, i only have five geckos tho. a breeder friend of mine buys them from a restaurant supply store for very cheap.

I have 9 and have never seen one drink from their dish. But some of my dishes do become shallow faster than others. This I why I spray the humid hide every night on the inside and outside. I have seen my geckos licking the droplets on several occasions.
