I have seen those reo stat things but could you use a light switch dimmer available from lowes to cut the power down? thanks in advance.

A light switch dimmer is a rheostat and you can use it but you will have to adjust it often as the room temp changes. A better choice is a thermostat. One inexpensive one is made by Alife.

I use the repti-temp r500 from Zoo Med. allows 2 devices to be powered and it controls the temperatures for you based on a dial. you set it and forget it. I like to double check it from time to time, but its been spot on from day one.

hey thanks I guess I will just see if my local pet store has one of those rheostats in because I actually will need it to plug into two heaters, thanks again.

they are cheaper online if you can wait 3 days for it to get to your house. I chose to do that since my temps were stable before I got it. I dont know how stable your temps are in your house, so you may need to go ahead and get it.

from personal experience rheostats will have you climbing a wall unless your house is at a constant temperature all year around..

Yep, a thermostat is a must. Rheostat/dimmers suck and you will never get the temps stable. The Repti temp works fine but there are better ones out there if you want to spend the $$.

just put a buffer in between repti carpet, fitted piece of cardboard between the tile and the tank. Works for me.

This is the main reason I prefer to use repti-carpet. The tile idea is great for cleaning etc. but the carpet will avoid those high temps when the UTH kicks on that are not good for a leos belly skin and toes. It's like laying on a frying pan! These are really pretty delicate creatures.

No, the issue is that with either repticarpet or tile is that you need a thermostat. Without that, then the temps will be too high on either one. Tile is perfectly safe. I've had mine in it for 5 months now with no burns what so ever. Unfavy, I have some issues with too little heat from time to time.

TEMP?

Hi Shaun.
What is your hot temp.
What is your low temp?
Where do you take it at?
What size tank?
What size UTH?
I have approx. 30 tanks, all have UTH,
None have Thermostats, none have reo stats.
Never had a burn or other heat related problem.
But don't have 50 UTH on a 10 gal tank either.
And yes I have temps over 90 in places.
Geckos are pretty smart about controlling their temp.
As long as you have a range for them to adjust in.
Take care. HJ
