I have a Hydrofarm thermostat and an Ultratherm 11x17 heat pad. the heat pad is duct taped to the underside of the tank, with the probe for the thermostat tucked in between the tank and the pad.

I currently have it set at 99, and the hide Boss is currently in is measuring at 84-86. What could the issue possibly be? Ambient temps are measuring about 72 with the thermometer, with the temp gun giving me 74 in his cool hide.

Edit: Forgot to mention, I have slate tiles as my substrate, with some paper towels underneath to keep them off the glass, and stabilize them.

The heat has to travel through the glass, through the paper towel, and then through the slate tile. So you will lose some heat through all of that. You have to turn it up enough to get the surface temp up to 88-92 on your warm side. You aren't too far off!

Thanks. I figured I'd just have to crank it, I just didn't want to do it right off the bat expecting it to magically be the answer, especially with the difference.
