Hi i just got my leo today, and iv been running the utg all day today , i have tile as a substrate and i put some cardboard under the tile on tge hot side otherwise the floor temp would get over 100dF but now it is 98dF, will this be okay for like 2 weeks or so until i can buy a lamp dimmer for the uth? Although the temps need to be between 88-95 degrees 98 deg is ok.they will find whats good for them.sometimes we get too hung up on numbers.even if the floor temp is 100 deg leos will move to the part where its enought heat for them.

I use 4 to 6 single sheets of newspaper under the tile above the uth. My uth doesn't go past 97 this way. It's normally between 90-95 degrees this way.

Did you just set up the tank when you brought home your Leo? If so that was a big mistake. You should always have it setup a day or two before getting your Leo so you don't run into these problems. You were asking alot of questions lately I hope you didn't bring home your Leo then set up the tank.

What thermometer are you using to measure your temps? Is it a stick on or dial or digital thermometer.

98 degrees is fine.

it is fine but if it's 98 now it's probably gonna hit 100 or more again. You figure you just put newspaper in there so that newspaper still has to warm up. Get ready for a late night my friend. That's why it's always better to have your tank setup a day ahead of time before you get your Leo. Good luck better get yourself a redbull you wil need it.

My geckos have access to temperatures ranging from 99-102 in the hottest part, down to about 76 in the coolest spot. They are healthy, active, eating like pigs, and breeding like rabbits. 100 degrees will not burn your geckos, and as long as they have a good gradient available they will regulate their temperature as needed.

2minutes ago it was 93 now it's at 95 get ready to hit 100 again. You should if ran your uth for those three days of being setup. If you would of done that you would of saw how hot the temp was and could of fixed it during the day not at night.

I'm not trying to grill you but you did ask alot of questions before you got your Leo, you seemed like you were off to a good start. The temp thing sucks without using a tstat but that the price you have to pay for not buying a tstat.

Even with a lamp dimmer you will have fluctuations with your temps. If the room temp changes so will the temp in your tank. Good luck man just stick to it and you will figure it out. It may take you a couple of hours but stick to it until the temps are right..

I hear ya Tony I just don't want his temps to hit like 105 or hotter. I had a uth once that hit 120degrees. You gotta be careful when you don't use a tstat as your temps can go all over the place. My temp gradient is 98 to 75-76 and my Leo is fine also. Just make sure it doesn't get too hot..

Can you post a pic of your Leo? My Leo ate the next day after I got him but he was off and on for about a week. I don't know how long a small Leo can go without eating but I'd imagine a week would be fine.
I've heard about 2weeks or so for some leos to get settled in. I've had my Leo for 3 weeks now and he is just now roaming all over his tank. I mean he is everywhere climbing on the glass all over his hides, I think he is fully settled in now.

Thats funny because my leo is crawling everywhere, all over his hides, he climbed to the top of a plant and then fell off lol he is acting very curious, does not seem scarred at all, just hasnt looked in his mealworm dish yet lol... Im doing this on my phone so once i get on my computer ill post a pic, to early to tell but i see some lines and speckles of bright orange at the base of its tail so im hopin he becomes a carrot tail

That's good that he's exploring do you have a calcium dish for it? I didn't notice if you said you had one. Try not to have the decorations to tall, you don't want em to hurt himself by falling down.
My Leo is so clumbsy he trips slides and falls off everything so I keep his stuff low to the ground.

Oh funny lol. I do not have a calci dish because i use the repashy calci plus and iv read and heard from people that you dont need one but im still thinking about geting one just in case he needs it. No stores around here sell strait calcium without D3
