I was wondering if i can just use a ceramiic heater instead of a UTH, i know UTH is good because of the heat threw the bottom, but the the ceramic heater seems to do pretty well at heating the ground... any thoughts?

If the ground can be the correct temperature all the time with the ceramic heater then it should be fine. Geckos in the wild do get their belly heat from above, after all.

Like Aliza said, as long as your thermometer reads that the temps on the ground are good to go, then you should be fine with just a ceramic heater.

Sometimes it's just easier to use the under tank heater. The coil ceramic heaters are good at producing heat, though. Just make sure that you're using a good thermometer with a probe to measure the surface temps.
