This guy was at the local chain pet store I went to last night. I needed crickets and saw him when I went to see what Leos they had in the store.

I almost bought him to try to save him, but I'm going away this weekend for a week. I wouldn't be able to care for him daily. I honestly don't even know if I would stand a chance since he looks so malnourished.

It's so sad to see these guys like this.

Please keep in mind that paying for a gecko is just continuing the cycle. The store doesn't need to care what shape their geckos are in if people will by them looking like that.

take pictures with mutiple papers so its een that it was lun cared for in the place for awhils and didnt arive like that or happen suddenly one morning like they claim. they cant legally accept an animal in that condition, and are supposed to report animals in those conditions, so can be brought down if you can find the right ways in your area. dont go through the local humane society, there useless. unless actually part of the main organization, which most claim to be but arnt.

where was this pet store? was this recently? could you send me the address? i would be more than willing to save the poor thing
PM sent.

Yeah it's sad that they had one like this. I'm not sure what happened though. I go there about every 2 weeks. I've never seen any that looked neglected like this before. They're always pretty healthy looking young geckos. The last time I was there they didn't have any that were even starting to look malnourished.

You should probably email the corporate offices of the chain store, then complain to the manager. I've never seen a gecko looking that bad...

Sadly the pet store where I used to work had some that looked like that. I did everything I could for them. I even started separating the ill ones from the not so ill ones, but then I came back after a few days of being off and one of the co-managers had put all of them back in the same tank. They had just got in a new shipment of reptiles and needed the room. I repeatedly asked them that they not order so many reptiles at one time. We had up to twenty five in one square twenty gallon tank. Luckily there were two albinos that had started out that bad that my manager let me keep in a separate small tank. Two months and a lot of Jump Start and dusted crickets later, they looked like healthy leos once again and sold very quickly once they had some fat on them.

You really should send that and maybe a few more photographs to the SPCA or contact their boss/headquarters and show them the pictures.

I should add that my pet store has since shown much improvement since I left. Last I went the cages were pretty dirty, but all the animals looked happy and healthy and seemed to have everything they need. They are also finally scaling (a little herp humor there lol) back the amount of reptiles they order.

Good luck with this little guy though and getting them to change their ways. It's very hard until someone in the chain of command realizes how bad it is. :(
