Very strange

I have been working with a small dubia roach colony. I just now got them to where I think they are happy. Well any way today I saw something very strange and was hoping someone can explain it. I looked in the box and saw one of my roaches, not sure of sex, with what actually appeared to be a penis coming out of its hind quarters. it was the same color as the roach and looked attached. It was standing erect from the body pointing up. I touched it and it felt attached. I wish I woulda got a picture but couldn't find my camera. Does any one know what this may have been. It was maybe a half inch to 1 inch long. I looked later and couldn't find it so I am thing it was a body part. Any knowledge would be great.

Although dubias give "live birth" they still have an egg case like many roaches... Some species of roach, like dubia, retain the case internally and will sometimes evert the case the retract it while other species drop the egg case in a place where hatch conditions are proper... Do not mess with your dubia roaches too much while they carry egg cases... They will sometimes drop them if they are spooked or stressed... This will result in no viable offspring...

similar thing happend to me when i was a little kid, 7 or 8 maybe... anyway, we were slappin around a big black beetle with hockey sticks and the same thing happend, we were really weirded out too.
