W/Y? How do you know?

My first baby hatched today from W/Y eclipse x eclipse. How do you know if it's a W/Y? This one definitely doesn't look like the regular patternless stripe eclipse that I normally hatch. Any one have any idea?

That's why I didn't get into W/Y. The variance and subtleties of the morph make proving it hard and guaranteeing an animal for the added price even harder/riskier IMO. Either way I think that baby has a sweet pattern and will mature nicely. Hope you can get it all figured out and find some sort of marker to help ID those.

Thanks everyone! I didn't realize that you couldn't tell when they hatched. I love the tail pattern on this baby. The clutchmate is in the female incubator, so it will still be a little while until it hatches.

On some babies it's obvious like the more 'pure' hypo kind. Like my female, when she was a baby she had that classic W/Y look with high white sides, 'pinched' bands etc. It looks like crossing them into pattern gene stuff throws out that classic W/Y look and we just don't know what to look for until they get bigger.

I got into them because I see lots of potential to make unique stuff and that's totally what I'm all about.

Maybe I'll be able to tell after the first shed. It has the white neck band. It looks like it might have high white sides. I can't wait to see how this one turns out.

I'd say from the pic it is a W&Y....

The best description I thought of for them is 'enigma lite'.

They are definitely 'different' to normals as hatchlings, with a kinda 'washed out and faded' look to them.

Congrats, looks like you have some stripy patterning starting too.

Hi Kristi, Cool looking baby but doesn't look like a w/y to me. When you hatch one you will see the difference. The first couple that I hatched confused me too but now that I have hatched quite a few it is a pretty obvious difference. It's especially easy to tell when you compare them to their siblings. They have a really washed out look to them and their pattern/bands blotches up kind of like a low expression enigma. They also will show a lot less pigment than their siblings. The white neck band isn't the best indicator in my opinion since a lot of the "non w/ys" have it also.

Here is a w/y hatchling for comparison...

Hope this helps a bit.
