WAY too hot!!!!

When I got home from school today, I went to check on my gecko's temp, and it was 105 !!!!! I started flipping out, but she was hiding on the cool side, and is OK. I'm most definately not leaving her heat on in the day :shocked3: . Usually my house stays pretty cool, but it was extra hot out. Poor baby :(

What is a good thing to do for the summer? When I am gone, should I leave her heat off, or should I leave it on and let her move to the cool side if she's too hot? I really don't want this to happen again :main_no:

Thanks,

Draaba

In hot climates, I suggest a thermostat control with remote temperature probe. And/or make sure the A/C in your room keeps temps cool enough and turn off your tank heater.

you need to hook it up to a thermostat (digital) which will shut it off at whatever temp you set it up for

Yeah. I have no AC. Is there an inexpensive thermostat that woks for UTHs?

Thanks,

Draba

Edit: I currently have it on a dimmer switch, but that doesn't help much with adjusting the temp

Yup. I have a temp gun. It's just when I'm gone at school, I can't adjust it. I'll look into a thermostat :main_yes:

We use Johnson controllers for all of our racks and we've never had a single problem. Our Houston weather changes are ridiculous, it'll be 90F one day and 60F the next, then back to 90F and that only the past week! Thermostats here are a necessity since there's not such thing as a "regular temperature". It automatically goes back to the set temperature after a power outage which had come in handy a lot for us. The Johnson is $80 and worth every penny here.

I believe there are cheap thermostats for like $25, but I forget who makes them. I'm not sure how reliable they are, but something's better than nothing I would assume.

I would consider at least putting a fan in the room if it's really hot. A window unit in the room is optimal though. We have Central A/C that is on March-November (sometimes longer!) but we have a window unit in the gecko room when we get ridiculously hot summer days.

Whitney, I think you might be thinking of a thermostat that ESU made. It was pretty inexpensive. Zilla took over and their site says they still make it but I couldn't find it for sale anywhere. Was it this one?
