I made my website with Weebly; it's free yet it looks nice. I bought a domain name, and changed the HTML/CSS to give it the look I wanted and to remove the annoying "made with weebly" text on the bottom.

Personally I wouldn't try to create a "nooby" website. I sat down with Dreamweaver, lots of youtube videos, a few beers, and just kept trying until I got something that looks decent. A nooby website will always be just that, and you most likely will want to "fix" it as soon as your done JMHO. Good luck either way

Travis - I really like your suggestions on web building. Use photos that are the size you want, dont resize in code because it takes longer to load (I did this >_<). Do you have any other suggestions?
Other thoughts - Dreamweaver is kind of expensive. Did you just buy it outright? (The best I can seem to find is $150 for a Student/Teacher Version)

I WISH I could buy it for that price Michelle! It's like 350-400 if your not a student or teacher. That's a steal.

Also, my advice on building a website is to hire someone who knows what they're doing! LOL! I saved myself a lot of frustration and suffering by knowing what I wanted, designed it (in my head) and put my thoughts on paper. Then I found someone to code everything for me and I think it turned out better than I could have imagined. I'm not very computer savvy, so I didn't want to build a half-assed site, but if you know how to code, then go for it. Good luck!

Thanks Chris. I keep going back and forth on what I want to do.
Im pretty computer savvy... at least I like to think so. I have a Bachelor's in Computer Science but its been a while since I have done much programming. My background is also in Java, not in online languages like javascript, PHP or CSS. I think I can pickup that stuff up pretty quickly though. The part I would like more help on is design and artwork. That is very time consuming and I am not that good at it. I think you are right... I need to sit down and figure out exactly what I want and write it out on paper.

Sorry for the partial thread Hijack >_<

I used weebly to build my site and I was happy with what the outcome was. It was my first time building a website. It looked totally different then what it looks like now. I had messed with computer code 10 years ago in high school but that's it. The website has changed drastically since the first day as I was constantly learning new things during the build.

Building a website takes patience and a bunch of research. If you have the time then you can't bet free. Just find template that you like and start adjusting it from there. They allow you to preview your changes and you can choose to save it or not. Find a good website that has info about CSS code and research about what you want to change. I have also heard others talk about wordpress but don't know a lick about that.

Another question I have... If you use dreamweaver to write the code... how do you input it on your website? I have a website through godaddy and I dont know of anywhere that you put code. Do you hve to get a web host?
