Hey guys, I need help! my gecko hasnt eaten since september and he lost a LOT of weight. I just started treatment with baytril once a day Panacur once every 10 days and Terramycin ointment for his eyes. on top of that im making him eat chicken baby food every day. He is being such a brat :main_yes: but I am not giving up. the ointment is because he will not open his eyes and the last time he shed he needed help so I gave him a warm bath and when i took the shed off his head/eye area there was gooey yellowish green stuck in each of his eyes. He opened his eyes for about 10 secconds and then closed them again and hasnt opened them since. Am I doing everything right? I want him to get better but he still wont eat on his own or open his eyes.

You have to be asking why hasnt he been eating? Is he kept on sand, are your temps right, did he come into contact with another reptile?

I would NEVER keep anything on sand!!! And his temps are all correct. he has not been in contact with other reptiles. His doseages are as follows:

Baytril .02cc once daily
Panacur .10cc every 10 days (3 treatments)
Terramycine small amout on each eye once daily
Chix baby food 2 times daily
Warm bath daily

I went to the vet and got the meds 3 days ago. I first thought he was just brumating but then he started losing weight and fast so he went to the vet.
the vets office gave me the meds...but didnt tell me what for.

Thats strange, a breeder will have to give you an answer because i dont know any other reason for weight loss.

Myself the only example of weight loss on a large scale I have is Kiya. She lost 10 grams within a day and a half, maybe two days at the most. She passed away recently, on the last day she was living her eyes would not open. I am not sure why. Because you have already taken him to the vet there is nothing I can suggest other then keep up with the meds as ordered by the vet. Was the vet a herp specialist?

With that combo of medications I would honestly pick up some type of a beneficial gut bacteria product. I'm not sure at the moment but I believe what I have is the benebac brand in the bird/reptile formula. There are a few out there.

I suggest it because both baytril and terramycin are antibiotics, panacur is a dewormer, and all will take a large toll on the beneficial bacteria that is normally present in the digestive system of a healthy leo. Antibiotics don't really specialize in what bacteria they kill, so to help him get the most out of the food your feeding I would give him a bacterial additive during and for a short time after the treatments.

I've used it a few times while deworming wild caught frogs or while an animals on baytril.

Good luck! I am curious as to what substrate you use though.

I would call the vet and leave a message asking him/her to call you back with the diagnosis. I would want to know what tests they did, what they found, why they gave the medication they did, etc. That should answer your questions.
