What Is Everyone's Morph/Breed? (The Nationality~Race Thread)

Seeing we discuss about morphs of geckos so much, I decided to start a thread on what nationality/race everyone is themselves as people. Might sound a little corny, but I know there's a lot of people on these forums from different countries so it would be interesting to know all the different races of people here.
My "morph" is pretty interesting...here's what I'm mixed with.

Hawaiian, Filipina, Swiss, Austrian, & French

Share what morph you are here in this thread. :main_laugh:

I'm American. Somewhere way, way, way back in our past the family came from Ireland. I have a hard time saying I'm Irish since I don't have a connection with the culture.

There are different ethnicities and nationalities, but we're all members of the human race.

Races, by definition, don't exist in people--There are no biologically distinct "races" of human beings.

This is a touchy subject, you're absolutely right in one sense
This is a quote from Stamford University Anthropology:
Regardless of reason, it is clear that there is no consensus and great confusion exists in the discipline [biological anthropology] with regards to race. The biological concept of race . . . has no basis in science.
Dr. Harold Freeman, Celera Genomics Corp., quoted in the SJ Mercury

but actually, anthropologist do catagorize people into races. What I was trying to get at in this thread is ethnicity, not race. I used the wrong wording. I'm just interested in learning about people's different ethnic backgrounds. I'm not any kind of hippie chick by any means (ugh...) but I've grown up in a mostly 99.9% white/caucasion small town and with me being of mixed ethnicity I've always wanted to learn about more about people like myself, and I absolutely adore Italians & Irish because those are the main ethnic groups here in CT.

Put it this way, there's no denying there are variations in races when it comes to characteristics. If there are two humans from different racial backgrounds standing side by side, let's say an asian man and a caucasian man, there's clearly different and distinguishable characteristics. This does not mean at all that one is better than the other, we are all "human" as you say Paul, but racial characteristics do vary greatly.
Race is a touchy subject, it's like a pink elephant in a waiting room, everyone knows it's there but nobody wants to talk about it.:main_laugh:

I am a "2nd generation" American. My grandfather (mother's dad) came from Scotland at age 17. The rest of my mom's side and 80% of my dad's side is of Irish decent, hence the last name McGowan. :)

Ever since I was young, I've always been confused about this subject. When people ask this question, It's been beaten into my head to respond Mexican American. In reality, when it comes to ethnicity, I'm Mexican since both my parents were born in Mexico. When it comes to nationality, I'm American. People question me if I respond either way, hence the confusion.

If we disregard nationality just for a second, wouldn't we be what our parents are? I guess I'm thinking in the way of gecko morphs. If your Mom, Dad, and Grandparents were Giants you would be a giant as well.

I want everyone to know that GF moderation is watching this thread to make sure it doesn't become problematic. Issues of race, gender, and nationality are very touchy subjects these days, and we all need to be 'politically correct'.

I'll talk about "race" but what you call "racial characteristics" are physical characteristics that, although may be common among a group of people, still do not establish a biologically distinct "race" of humans. Physical characteristics do vary, but there is no single biological trait possessed by one "race" of people that does not exist in another "race" of people. There may be variations in physical characteristics between ethnicities, but there are just as many variations within each ethnicity.

Anywho, I don't mean to turn the thread into a debate. I just wanted to mention that. :) (sorry Marcia!)

My ancestors all came from various places in Western Europe. Some Irish, German, English, Dutch & Polish.

If you're like myself and don't put humans above other species you would believe that "races" are like sub species... Sure all human DNA is compatible regardless of "race", but like Tanga said, there are definitive characteristics to each "race". Not a god, but environmental factors are the cause of this...

In the distant future, if there is one, I believe there will be a single "race" of humans... Not one that rises to power, but one which the environment (be it a post apocalyptic wasteland or a world amassed of robots and computers where humans are the source of energy) favors...

Either way, the mother ship will have returned for me long before that... :alien:
