Ok Took Eros out tonight after feeding him and I noticed this rather disturbing bubble behind his right arm pit. I call it a bubble because ti seems air filled and isn'thard at all. It's quite squishy. It isn't bilateral and is only behind the one arm. I got a few pix, the best I could so I hope y'all can help me out here. It's quite disturbing to me, and it wasn't there wednesday when I had him out. He only ate 1 super tonight and his last meal was wednesday. He is 9 mos old so the lessfood thing doesn't concern metoo much as he is getting older. He is still poo'ing normally from what I can tell from what he leaves in his litterbox but his tank temps have been running higher than normal averaging about around 98 degrees (sometimes igher sometimes lower) I've seen it as high as 101 and as low as 96 lately, ut he usually stays o the cooler side of hishot hide. His hot hide is slate that takes up the entire width of his 20 long so there is plenty of space for him to go tothe other side for a cooler area but he never goes on his cool side of the tank that I have seen. The only change inhis tank recently is I added a tupperware humid hide with wet paper towels in them and a hole cut but no jagged edges. Here's the pix.

I am no expert by any means but I have read A LOT of threads... it looks like calcium pockets to me you can search the forums I'm sure you will find some info on it... from what I gather it is harmless and it is just excess calcium storage. Hopefully this helps and Eros is okay!

Thank you and yes I have read about calcium deposits but I figured they would be more firm and not as air filled feeling as this one is and on both sides not just the one. Hopefully that is all it is but it came up in a matter of a few days too which is scary to me.

Beau had those and I also got scared because they just popped up. They weren't firm to the touch. And he also had it on both sides. Sounds exactly the same as you're describing

So what happened with Beau? (I see in your signature that Beau is RIP hopefully from old age and not the bubbles) What were they? Did they just go away or did you need to see a vet? Is it odd that Eros only has it on 1 side and not the other? I'm worried. I just feel like I'm messing something up altho I haven't changed any of how he is being cared for. I've done everything the same since I got him back in october.

No, he didnt' die from old age. I lost him, still don't know for sure how. I don't think the bubbles had anything to do with it. I can't remember but I believe they went away. Beau died from what we think was internal bleeding, his poo was bloody...Completly different thing. Trust me.

If you cut back a little on dusting, they will go away. I found that dusting at every other feeding keeps those bubbles away. All my adults get them occasionally. It's just excess calcium. They will go away on their own, no need to worry. When I had a chameleon I found that I'm a heavy duster and began to dust only half his crickets.

Really? Excess calcium? Because I noticed the EXACT SAME THINGS on my gecko Analogue Static last night and was getting a little freaked out.

@ kel- that is what they call calcium bubbles :) I'm sure you've read about them, but never saw them in person ;) mine get them too, they come and go.

@ fl_orchidslave-so we don't want the extra storage of calcium? I thought having a ready supply was a good thing? Esp. In the females?

There is no proof that they are a result of too much calcium, but that is the general consensus. It appears they are related to some sort of supplementation/food intake. They are, at any rate, harmless bulges that a lot of well-fed geckos tend to get. They seem to go away if you don't dust for a while, or if you start feeding slightly less.

He was getting dusted once a week and has recently started only wanting 1-2 supers per feeding. I thought it might be a calcium pocket as he had a dish and was also getting the repashy calcium plus icb and there was always face prints in his calcium dish. He gets fed tonight so we'll see how it's doing. I kinda suspected it was a calcium bubble but for some reason I always thought they'd be bilateral insted of singular.

Thanks for all the imput guys. I greatly appreciate it...

My super snow had one pocket like that under his arm and it freaked me out, since I also thought the calcium bubbles would be under both arms instead of just one. After a couple of days, and a little less dusting, it went away. So I assume that it was just the calcium pockets affecting just one arm.

Update on Eros... fed him monday and had him out after feeding like we usually do, again he only wanted 1 super, we dusted just with the repashy since monday was his regular dusting day and have removed the dish of plain calcium that was in his tank. The bubble does seem to have gone down a little bit but is still quite evident. We feed again tonight, no dusting tho. We'll see how his appetite is and if the bubble has gone down any more. I suspect the lesser eating thing is prob. because he is approaching maturity and because of winter slow down, but like I said not too worried about that. When we fed monday, even tho he only ate 1 he ate it with gusto and there has been new poo's in his litterbox.

Thanks again guys...

Mine has had the bubbles once in a while, but I have usually tried to supplement less so that they go away. However, she does have Metabolic Bone Disease, so would the calcium bubbles be good for a gecko that has MBD?

The fact that an animal with a calcium deficiency (which is what MBD is) can have these "calcium" bubbles, only serves to further confuse the assumption that they are actually caused by too much calcium. There is no evidence that they are harmful to the animal, but I just can't agree that these are a result of too much calcium. They aren't going to hurt your gecko with MBD, but I doubt they will help. I would continue dosing your animal with calcium until it recovers and not try to reduce the amount of calcium they intake just because it is developing these bubbles.
