i was at my reptile shop again....and am about ready to buy 1,000 off the internet since they seem to be around 15 bucks..since my reptile shop is like 50 half dead meal worms for 3 bucks. and that price is crazy...Anyway so i ask for one Large and one small....

the large i fear are something called "giant" meal worms...and i know you cant breed them. so are they? here is a photo. Please tell me the bad news...lol

First worm is a mealworm just before going into pupa.

Second is the mealworm treated with growth hormones (about the same age)

Last is a super worm it is a different species of mealworm they are larger and darker then mealworms (the ones you have are not super worms).

I don’t have any size reference (such as a quarter) to tell if it is a giant or a reg. mealworm.

Giant Mealworms

Giants have hormones in them to bypass turning into pupae. If they did turn into pupae then the beetles are suppose to be steril.

I do not give my Leos Giants. It is my choice.

I have given them Supers and they ate them up.:main_thumbsup::D:main_yes:

The name Super Mealworm is not descriptive enough. These are Monsters. They are Large, it requires a different set up to raise them and they are very active.

I bought my first Supers the other day and left them in the baggie on the counter. When I got around to them one of them had eaten through the darn baggie and was on his way out.:main_huh:

They eat the same stuff that mealworms do and they require moisture (carrots). If not they will eat each other.:main_no:

As for raising, You Tube has a little video and you can read about them on the net or the forum. Have fun.:D
