Take a look around the websites at the top of the page. They're all great breeders & you can get a feel on prices and what morph you really want.

ONE, you should only get one as a beginner. A male would be your best bet to start with. The links at the top of the page, or the classified section should give you a good idea of how much you will have to spend on a quality pair of geckos.

You say you have done a lot of research, so you probably already know but breeding really shouldn't be done until you have enough experience and money to take care of any and all issues that may come up. And they will come up.

Our beginner breeding story: My son breed his giant female last year. Add her cost, the emergency vet costs (when she had a burst follicle and ultimately had to be put down), the incubator for the single fertile egg, housing, heating, and food...it cost thousands of dollars and a lot of heartache for one healthy hatchling. We love her though and are happy to have her around but would not have made the same decision to breed that female if had to do over.

Good luck with whatever you decide!

If you're on a budget you shouldn't be breeding. Plain and simple.

As for your first gecko I would start with one and make sure you like them before you jump into two or three.

You can get a nice regular leopard gecko for as cheap as 20 dollars.
The enclosure is whats expensive. The vet is also expensive.
Just something to think about :)

I agree that you shouldn't breed right away. Become more experienced first, then think about it a couple years in the future. For some money saving tips when getting your first gecko, I would look on craigslist for a tank and maybe some supplies. You can easily build your own hides with some wood from outside(bake it first to get rid of unwanted pests). I used bark and some hot glue to put mine together and they look great. For a moist hide, a tupperware continer with some moss will work. Moss isn't all that expensive when you buy it in bulk. Stick on vinyl tile from menards is 2 dollars for a square foot, so substrate is relatively cheap. You can build your own rheostat for under $10. A UTH and supplements are probably the most expensive.

Geckos aren't social, so 1 will be fine (and won't get lonely). I actually recommend that you get a female, because if you decide you like having geckos and want another, you may be able to house them together if you get another female (that's after quarantining the new one, making sure they're about the same size and seeing if they'll get along). Getting a male first guarantees that you'll need a second permanent enclosure if you decide to get a second gecko.
