What type of gecko should i get? i want to have the cage, food, lighting etc set up and ready and bought before i buy a gecko but before i make a move i need to decide what kind to get! i want something average size, that i can handle. i would buy it as a baby most likely, and something that can be kept in pairs/groups is a plus!

a leopard gecko?

why?
i just want to know the reasoning for that. i want a nice hardy, friendly gecko that i can hold and raise and wont up and die on me bc its got a short lifespan lol. i want the tortoise of the gecko world. i really like the look of tokay's btw :D

I agree with Katie, a leopard gecko would fit your description pretty well. They have a lifespan of 20-30 years in captivity, so you shouldn't need to worry about too short of a lifespan.

Average adult size of a leo is around 8-10 inches.

They can be a bit skittish as hatchlings and juvies, but with a little bit of work (just a few minutes per day) they usually turn out as very tame adults.

We have a 5 month old leo who is already a real sweetheart and doesn't mind being held at all. I've had an older leo in the past who would climb up and sit on my shoulder. They really have amazing personalities.

The only thing that doesn't really match what you're looking for is that they typically do best without tank mates. You can keep females together, but there's always the risk of fighting and bullying so they need to be monitored pretty well.

Tokays are mean, but I have seen videos of tamer ones. Leopard geckos are so much nicer. But you have quite a few pets already so I'm sure you know what you're doing. Are you able to handle your chameleons without them freaking out?

yes we are. they eat from our hands and will drink directly from the nozzle of the spray bottle when we spray them

Id say Leo as well, maybe a garg, i hear they can be handled, but can be jumpers, then again my leo could care less for me. She just doesnt want to be handled and i respect that.
I wouldnt say Tokay are mean..just ...opinionated and self confident.

I would say a leopard gecko or a crested gecko. I have both, and love the unique colors of the leopard gecko, but my crested is easier to handle for longer periods of time. I love both of them though!

More like 10-20 average from what i have heard debates on. there was a poll a while ago and a thread where everyone discussed it. Males seem to be given the longer life span but its because breeding stress can lower a females life span considerably. Or so seemed to be the idea. I think if your gecko lived to be 15, then congrats. I wouldnt say it was only half way there. Now, some HAVE lived to be well over 20, i think the first male Giant is still around and is OLD.
