What UTH should I get for a 20 gallon long?

I have a standard 10gallon(20x10) with a Zoo Med Repti Therm for 10-20gallon tanks, it's approximately 8x6 inches. That seems pretty small to be put onto a 20 gallon long (30x12).

Should I go the next size up to the 30-40gallon one or should I just stick with this one. If you have any other opinions I'd greatly appreciate it

in my 20L tanks i have the Zoo Med Medium sized its the 8x12 i think it is, works fine. i have 4 juvs in each. each weigh about 20ish grams. i also have zill 30 breeders those are real nice, 36x18x12 its super hard to find repti carpet.

I use the 10-20 gallon size in a 20 gallon long. I have also found that with ceramic tile, the 10-20 gallon size maintains a temp close to 92 degrees without a thermostat. On most of my 20 gallon long tanks, however, I use Zoomet Heat Cable. The 11 foot size, which is the smallest, is just a bit too short to do the job properly; the 14 foot size is better. You tape it to the bottom of the tank in whatever configuration you want in "sine curves". I like it because I can tape it on one side if I'm using the tank for an adult and along the whole back length of the bottom if I"m subdividing the tank for babies.

Id go with the 30-40 gallon one. That way you have more room to put your warm hide and humid hide. As long as the tempature is controlled, i dont see a problem with heating half the tank if not a little more. As long as there is room for a cool hide at room tempature. The 10-20 gallon one will work fine and is probably a bit cheaper though.

According to the directions on the Ultratherm UTH, your matt should be no larger than 3/4 of the floor area of your tank.

Some folks like to cover 50% and have a wider temp gradient.
It really depends on your house temps, and the type of UTH you are using.
