I've read that pheonix worms are a great nutritional food. High in calcium and not too high in fat.

I don't think there is one "best" feeder insect for leopard geckos specifically. That's like debating what human diet is better.

I think it's a matter of what works for you. As long as feeder insects are gutloaded or supplemented, and your husbandry techniques are right, your geckos should thrive. I personally have found dubia roaches to be the most appropriate feeder for my geckos, and this is after trying out years of other feeders- including crickets, mealworms and superworms. I would recommend to try out different feeder staple insects and find what you and your geckos like.

mealworms are inferior nutritionally to superworms roaches , hornworms silkworms and others. THis is a fact.

Whatever you say... Super worms are not the best feeder out there... They are very high in fat... Tell the hundreds of breeders that use only mealworms that they are an inferior food source... LOL...

Jon, I am 100% with you on the dubia thing... They are a great feeder for sure... If I had to pick a staple, I would pick those...
But you know me... No staple diets here... I go the varied route..

I gutload and feed store-bought (dusted) crickets and mealies.
I don't get what everyone's talking about with their leos not eating pre-dead-ed food, my leos eat those canned mealies like kids eat candy. I feed live crickets, though
