Actually, plants the are "Genetically Modified" and selectively bred. They do not ave there genes played with. This like quickest prime, greatest seed count, sweetest fruit, and LARGEST fruit are all thanks to selective breeding.

this is why i was offended after u bashed me. you said we dont play with plants genes. i love genetics and thought i could share some info, so dont tell people they dont have their facts strait cause i found it highly offensive.

OK everybody, please stay focused and polite. There is no need to get upset about this, especially on Christmas Eve! It is certainly a fascinating topic and I do encourage civil discussion on it. Thanks!

There IS no reason to get our underwear all twisted over this very good subject! A few years ago, I contacted about a dozen mealworm breeding companies to ask them what the did and what they used to create 'giant' mealworms (Tenebrio molitor). Only one company told me it was proprietary, and it was basically none of my business. I told them it WAS my business because I was feeding living creatures and wanted to know what I was feeding them. The rest of the companies were very informative by telling me that they have been treated with juvenile worm hormones, thereby greatly prolonging their worm stage thus preventing the mealworms from pupating as quickly. A few told me they no longer use it.

If it really worries, you, a good place to start would be to contact the grower directly and ask them!

Now, in regard to "GM" foods... do you like seedless grapes? Do you like seedless (navel) oranges and watermelon? How about corn on the cob that has almost 100% of the kernels on it? Or those sweet, fat little baby carrots... Mmmmmm!

I can guarantee that if you all knew what was used to fertilize all your 'organic' produce, you wouldn't want to eat it either. Ewwww. The chemical additives we use as preservatives in most of the food we eat today is f-a-r more dangerous than eating a tomato that has had one of it's genes altered so it is more drought or disease resistant, or has a better yield to feed more hungry nations.
