OK, I've searched the forums and didn't see a thread on this.

My fat tail is arriving Tuesday, and I want to make sure I know what to do when he gets here. When am I supposed to feed him? Do I feed him at night, because he is nocturnal? Do I need to feed him at the same time every day? Do I feed him every day, or every other day? (He is 3.5 months old)

Also, this is OT, but when can I try to pick him up without freaking him out? Is there a way to do so that he will trust me and warm up to me without being scared of me?

Thanks! :)

Feed him in the evenings. Don't be surprised if he doesn't eat for a day up to even a week or more. You don't have to worry about feeding him at exactly the same time. As a juvenile he may want to eat every day once he gets used to his environment but at some point his appetite will probably decrease because he's getting big enough not to need to eat every day (my 6 month old leopard geckos are about 40 grams now and are at that point). Fat tails seem to be less squirmy when picked up. One of my fat tails would hiss at me initially when I picked him up, but he doesn't anymore. Give him a few days to settle in, let him get used to the sight of your hand feeding him and the sound of your voice and then, once he's eating, pick him up and hold him for a little while.

OK. Thanks!! You've been so helpful! I can't wait to get him. I'm glad you told me about him not eating for awhile because I think that would have scared me.

What to feed a Fat Tail

Once again ACPart has good advice.:main_thumbsup:

I think that in general the feeding habits of the Fat Tail are similar to the Leopard Gecko.

So the same kinds of food, the same supplementation, and same scheudle.:D
