My exoterra's temperatures are consistent but it is so weak. It just barely reaches 88-89 running full-blast. But my house is kinda cold so that might be the problem! :p

I use Zoomed 10/20gallon UTH large or meduim probably. Cause their prices are reasonable. :D I'll buy other soon because I saw Zoomed Uth are starting to lose some of it's sticky pad. It kept peeling off, I figure it's loss of sticky. I saw in ***** ,they are on sale. so will buy them soon.

i use ONLY zoo med UTHs. ive got over 10 going(and i use heat tape from the bean farm) but when i tried zilla UTHs(2 10-20s) they crapped out and started making noises within a week of being on. I use 10 10-20 UTH 5 30-40 UTHs and one 1-5 UTH all by Zoo med. A brand name i have yet to have any trouble with unlike with zillas stuff.

Wow that is a nice thermostate for that price. I wished I would have seen that when I got the Zilla for $29 and it has a 2.5 degree swing and it is not digital. I would get that thermostat and set it and leave it.

Yes, I thought it was a great price, too. Yesterday the price was 21 dollars, but it went up today to 24--that's amazon for you. More than likely it will go back down soon. Probably worth the extra ten dollars. I have a 18x18x18 and have the 8 watt exo heater. What is a safe place to put my thermo at for the pad? 92?

A lot of debate on temps but I have been trying to keep mine at about 90 and the Zilla thermostat ranges from 88-92. I am seriously considering order that digital one and trying it.

I have heard great reviews on it! I'm getting it!

I see all our chats haven't gone to waste ncbeast :) Sounds like the new set up is going pretty well. I wouldn't worry too much about a 3-4 degree temperature swing. Nature is never THAT consistant so it won't hurt the leo imo. Eros is doing so much better in that range.

As far as heat mats go all I can say is zoomed (atho everyone seems to love it) has never worked for my son's python's tank. Never got hot enough to heat thru the slate floor. I LOVE love love my cobra heat mat (ncbeast is sure to back me on this one ;) ). I have the T-Rex brand cobra but would much rather have preferred getting the ultratherm. I actually just ordered another cobra for my son's python's tank so that will be the real test. Also it is water resistant so if you DO go with a thick tile for substrait you can actually put it IN the tank say between 2 layers of tile insted of directly on the floor so it wouldn't be subject to sitting in moisture, but also wouldn't short out from getting misted or water spilled on it. It is also non adhesive which is nice. You don't ruin it trying to move it from one place to another if you re-do your tank. Also you can find a nice cobra on line for a 20 long for under $25.00.

Ultratherm and T-Rex brand cobras are designed to run at a constant cnnsistant 100 degrees so depending on how thick your substrait is you will likely need a rheostat. With out one mine ran about 98-101 depending on house temps with vinyl tiles substrait. I installed a rheo and keep it at between 89-91 now and Eros is much more happy about that.

Im the one that suggested that thermostat... I like it and the price was right for me, but be aware that it it doesnt stay at a steady temp..

I have it set at 92 degrees and it will go down to 88 sometimes before it turns back on.

A lot of that would depend on if you had a thermostat to control excessive heat... the 10x11 should bebig enough as long as it is at least a 7 watt uth, the 11x17 would absolutely be big enough but I worry about the higher wattage. I have a 6x11 7 watt cobra heat mat on a 20 long tank (29x12 dimensions) and it works great. Just be sure that you have a way to control the excessive heat you may produce from the higher wattage and that your uth covers approx 1/3rd of your tank floor surface, and YES you do put it directly under your hot side hide. Make sure you keep a probe thermometer on it at all times tho so you can make sure your temps don't go out of a safe range (normal range suggested is 88-93*F).
