Which pairings for first time breeder?

2010 will be my first season of breeding, but I'm not sure which projects would be the best to start with.

goal: learn the entire process of breeding, incubating/hatching, raising and selling geckos (without getting burned out.)

2-3 females is probably plenty, right?
I would like pairing that would produce interesting leos that would sell relatively easy.

I have 5 males (RAPTOR, Mack Snow, Bell Eclipse, Jungle albino 100% het RAPTOR, Hypo Tang)
and a bunch of females. Here are my ideas so far.

1. RAPTOR (Henry) x RAPTOR (Dorothy) -- to get RAPTORS and work on a line of nice RAPTORS

2. RAPTOR (Henry) x SHTCT (Dolly) --- SHT het raptor. -- these could be bred back to raptor to get a sunglow ??

3. RAPTOR (Henry) x Mack snow (Uncia) -- would get 100% het raptors, 50% mack snow -- then cross the MS het RAPTORS back to RAPTOR and get some MS Raptors.

4. Mack Snow (Big Mack) x Mack snow (Uncia) - to get Mack Snows and Super Snows ** don't know if MS male is het anything else.

5. Mack Snow (Big Mack) x Bell Albino (Bella) - to get MS het Bell - then cross MS het Bell to Bell - to get MS Bells

6. Bell Eclipse Male (Winston) x Bell Female (Bella) to get more Bells het eclipse ** not 100% positive the male is really Bell Albino

7. Bell Eclipse male x Mack Snow female - to make mack bells

8. Jungle albino 100% het RAPTOR x ???

9. Hypo Tang male x SHTCT or other Tang female ...


Which sound like the best projects for a new breeder?

I would go for either some nice raptors, As you suggested work on the blinding red and oranges, and mack raptors, if you breed mack het raptor to mack het raptor you could have a chance to get super raptors. or just go back to raptor, get a couple of mack raptors and breed them together.

Depends how long you want to take.

7. Bell Eclipse male x Mack Snow female - to make mack bells

a bell eclipse is a RADAR, not many have been released and the ones that have cost a lot of money. chances are if your "bell" has eclipse eyes, it's most likely a tremper albino with eclipse eyes

Thanks Sean, the RAPTORs are my top priority

and Robin, should I breed the eclipse (bell/tremper) to a tremper and a bell to determine which he really is?

i would try the tremper only, its just a hunch though

chances are its not a radar unless you payed about 1k for one. personally i say go with anything raptor/eclipse wise as there is such a variation in them and i like them

+1, breed it to a tremper first and then you should get your answer without making a double albino het
