I do not think that I have ever came across a post asking which thermometer that you put your trust in for your herps and egg incubation.

I use all digital thermometers on a regular basis. I do have a mercury and a bimetal that I occasionaly use, when I am out of digitals.

I actually use both a mercury and a Flukers temp and humidity combo.

They all are quite accurate. I chose IR because you can get great surface readings. Thermal imaging is quite amazing too. Unfortunately the cameras coast over $2K

i will go with Digital thermometers as it is very accurate, fast, and inexpensive.

I tape my probe down to my slate tile with gorilla or Duct tape. Just be sure that there is no big gaps that the gecko can get stuck under if they move the tape. I have been doing this for 4 years and not had an issue. I have had a corn snake get tuck though, not fun to try and remove the snake, so I do not recommend it in a snake's tank.

You mean tape the thermometer to the floor of the tank with duck tape? That cant look pretty lol.. why could you not just leave it laying on the floor. Its just a thermometer stick right? just wondering so many people on here say they use tile, how do they measure the temp on the ground. thanks for the input.

how can I measure the temp on the ground of his cage if he has ceramic tile? I am not sure what to use, I just have one on the side of the tank, but need to adjust the temp of the ground, not sure how. duct tape was suggested , but is there a thermometer you can just lay freely in the bottom of the cage?

I use digital thermometers and thermostats, all I do is tape the probes in place under a hide so that I do not see the probes or the tape. I have had my geckos move the thermostat probe off of the heat pad and that has sent the heat mat up to 115F. So now I ensure that the probes are always taped down.

I take the temperature from the substrate with exo-terra digital thermometers. I really like the accuracy and small size of the exo-terra thermometers. You could just lay the probe on the tile, but as I mentioned I have taped the probes under the hide to get the temperature reading. To adjust the temperature if it is too hot you will need to purchase a thermostat or dimmer.

I use a temp gun and a mercury stick on just to see air temp.

infra red tamp guns!!!! these are THE BEST temp checking devices you can buy...PERIOD!!! plus you can buy ONE and check every inch of every enclosure, your incubators, your animals temps, your kids temps...and i could go on for a while how many advantages that infra red heat guns provide! i do use a few digital thermos with probes, but ALWAYS use my temp guns to double check them...i only use these in incubators though...no need to use them in my enclosures because i use my gun. i only use the thermos in the incubators so i dont always have to open them up as often(to keep the temps more consistant)

I just use the little $12 Zilla digital thermometers from chain pet stores. I use paper substrate and tape the probe to the floor. It isn't pretty but I never see it because I put a hide over it. :)
