Just wanted to see how many breeders are starting to use Silk Worms for their Leos??? If so how many do you go through at a time, Weekly and Monthly. If you don't use Silks would you consider them if they were a bit more affordable??? BTW they are much cheaper than Dubia.:main_thumbsup: Thanks in advance.

I thought about silk worms at one point. However the people that I have talked to say their Leos hate them, as they keep stuck to the roof of their mouth, and it annoys the Leo. So I will not use them.

I use them as a treat during breeding season, only use 2000 or so. In total, but please note my females only get them every other week, sometimes monthly.

Not in my case.

Every single one of mine seem to really like them. I have seen a couple of them spit them back out, but I have seen the same thing happen with large supers as well, with the same leos. Lets just say my Nova Male Loves them he even eats the Large/Jumbo ones, he is just getting up to 60 grams, which are about as fat as 2-3 large supers put together. So I have to feed way less and there is way less chitin involved. I am going to be using Dubia roaches as well but not until I get my new caging.

I used silkworms before (I breed them myself); but not many of my geckos liked them, so I gave up. There are something that I don't like about silkworms:

- I think their silk is annoying, gives me shivers when I accidently touched the sticky silk.
- I don't have access to mulberrry leaves, so I need to prepare the chow which is pretty expensive.
- The silk moths gives off too much dust when they flap their wings.

On the other hand, silkworm is a very good, nutritious food. Just that my geckos don't like them. :(

Almost all of mine eat silkworms (they are less than 3 mos. old) I give them about 2ea. a week as a snack.. especially when I am running low on mealies!! :main_angry: Your leos may be older.. I have heard they can be stubborn. . .

Sorry just reread your post. I'm no longer a breeder (never was if you have to sell your babies to be a breeder.) the number above is for only one leo!

We use silkies along with mealies, crickets, and Dubias. The geckos seem to like the change of feeders. Out of all the feeders the silkies seem to disappear the fastest overall. We have very few geckos that do not like silkies and those are the same ones that like crickets the most. I really think that is due to movement of the feeder.

We buy the eggs from mulberryfarm.com and refridge them until one of our 4 containers become empty. By cycling the containers we are able to keep somewhat of a steady supply of silkies.

We are kind of lucky that we have a friend that has a Mulberry tree on the edge of their woods, the worms definately thrive better on the leaves then they do the chow.
