Why do they say not to feed your hatchling till they shed their first shed?

Most won't eat until after they shed. I actually throw a few worms in right away. About 1/2 my babies will eat before their shed and the other 1/2 wait until afterwards.

Average is around 3 days. Some may take longer though. Most of mine shed in 2-3 days.

It's likely that the babies aren't hungry before the first shed since they still have yolk in their bellies.
