I'm very lucky, most of my geckos are VERY friendly and "outgoing"; although it depends on the individual gecko. Some geckos are more shy than others; but I believe the more you interact with it, the more they'll come out from their hides. I go to visit my geckos almost once every 30 minutes per night (during commercial breaks...;)); I'll pick up and kiss whoever that is outside. I also talk to them alot.

Sometimes I can see them in broad daylight too; I have 2 that doesn't mind the bright light and will sleep in the open (with hands and legs flying everywhere, lol). As Aliza mentioned, I will also pick them out from their hide to check for retained shed.

I'm with Emma I have them just because. I think the environment is very important and
one must find a balance between too much and too little cage furniture clutter and the
required 3 hides. Tell us a little about the set up you had. I found a backgrround very
helpful they are kinda like a hug for your enclosure to help your pet feel safe, my guys are for the most part out and about but I have the above mentioned background and a
few ledges and yes the use the ledges often. They are more active at night but still I am able to glance at one of the enclosures and see a gecko. I've seen the most precioous sleeping habits out of my 4 Geckos and Im think is is cause they feel safe in their homes.
I have one name Ping my only male out of a group of 4 that is a male and he and i are having a real love affair, when I get home from work 11-7 shift my closet is right next to
his enclosure when I take off my coat and hang it up he will be on top of his moist hide and he has taught me he would like to come out at other times he will just stick his head out and I speak and move on till later in the day but I ALWAYS

I stress out all day long, so when I come home it's nice to be able to have something to do that is not stressful, and almost therapeutic. It calms me down being able to feed them, clean tubs, etc. Not to mention they are gorgeous animals.

...plus breeding projects make it a little more exciting... :D

My friend had a leo. He has all kinds of little animals such as praying mantids (not the small kind), fighting fish, scorpions, leopard geckos and turtles if I'm not mistaken. Some of them have passed away though.

At first I got hooked on praying mantids. Extremely interesting little bugs. I was on a forum like this too while I was raising them. That forum is so similar to this one. There were even people with almost exactly the same characteristics as the ones here. I wanted a praying mantid for a long time but my dad didn't want me to buy one. I was about to take a trip to Cameron Highlands (a place in Malaysia that is famous for mantids) to go and look for some. A little while before that, I found one in my garden. I caught it and raised it. It laid about 8 oothecas (mantid egg sack). I felt sorry that I had no male for it to mate with and that all the ooths were infertile so I let her go. After that, I got a few more mantids in school and at home. I used to catch mosquitoes in my house for them every day but I really had no time to do that so I had to give up on mantids.

Soon after that experience, my friend got me hooked on leo's. I am very happy for that.

Leopard geckos are great for our schedule. I own a daycare and I don't have time for anything but children from 5 am to 5 pm. My husband works from 4 am to 4 pm. By the time we are done working, get cleaned up and eat dinner, the geckos are ready to come out. My geckos are my form of relaxation. I love to get them out and watch them explore their gecko pen. I have several that seem to really like to be held. We even have one boy who comes out anytime he hears you walk into the room and expects some attention....day or night.
