so, if i have recently gotten a wild caught fat tail. she is a long term captive at 8 years, and i know she has never been dewormed or taken to a vet. she is perfectly healthy (as far as i can tell) and eats/poops fine.

of course i will isolate her for a month. but i have known her for a long time and i can garuntee she will be fine.

anyways, knowing she is wild caught, does that mean she must have parasites?

or, since she has been healthy for 8 years, does that mean she must not have parasites?

i know the answer is i should just take her to a vet and get a fecal...

however, if she does have internal parasites yet is still perfectly healthy, why should i spend over $100 to fix her when she seems totally fine?

just wondering what you guys think...

no i dont have internet access at home right now. so i only use the internet at school. as soon as i get internet at home ill post a bunch of pics (you should see what the lego castle looks like now!)

but back to the gecko, its actually a way cooler story than you know!

i actually used to own this gecko before. in fact she is the very first gecko i ever owned. i originally bought her in seattle 8 years ago. then i brought her down to az with me when i moved here. then when i moved back to washington state, i gave her to a friend down here.

now ive moved back to az to go to college (yes i know back and forth a lot) and my friend told me i could have her back if i wanted, and of course i went and got her asap.

so, shes actually my latest gecko and my first gecko! its pretty cool to see her again, and its awesome shes still healthy, my friend took pretty good care of her.

parasites

I personally wouldn't take her to a vet. Waste of money, in my opinion, if she's been fine for eight years. I recently bought a wild-caught leopard gecko, and the seller told me that the parasites mostly result from having been kept in overcrowded and bad conditions by the people who catch and export them. It doesn't mean that ALL wild-caught animals have parasites, anyway. So, if you know a bit about the background of your animal, that would help.

Mine is perfectly fine, too. I'll have her in quarantine until next year, when it's time for breeding.

Will she have any cage mates that could get infected from having contact with her? If not, then it's no problem at all. A visit to the vet would probably stress her out. IF she does have parasites, her robust nature can probably put up with them (what captive-bred animals maybe couldn't).

Glad you got her back :D

If she is healthy and has been for 8 years it is unlikely that she has parasites.

When I get a new gecko I don’t even take them for a fecal sample, I just quarantine all of mine for 3 months.

IMHO....only mine. Unless you have "extra bucks" laying around......my advice single her out and observe her closely ....
.I'm not much of a Vet Appreciation Person........
....Since I am batting 3 for 3.... 3 to the vet...3 dead....
I have learned enough to now feel all vets do not know as much about geckos as some owners do....As far as parasites/pin worms, if signs present themselves you can do treatment yourself.....I have not done so but my buddy has and with success.
....There are plenty that will advise you to take her without batting an eye........It's your call only.......take care. Hj

I read somewhere that your Lego castle is much larger and has a second story and everything.. sounds AWESOME :D

That's really cool that you got your very first gecko back, very amazing story :) Kudos to your friend for taking good care of her too
