Hey I've had a gecko now for 5 days and its really calm when i touch it and stroke its back, but then after about a minute of doing that he will slowly back away and go in to his hide, now how should i pick him up, and what are the possibilities of me getting bit? might i had he's a baby, probably only a month or 2 old

They don't usually bite, but some younger ones will do that to frighten you, but don't worry, it won't hurt. If you want to pick him up, you can put your hand down in front of him very SLOWLY, he'll eventually walk near and check out your hand. When he learns that your hand is safe, he'll walk up on your hand or you can slowly pick him up by putting your fingers around his belly (that's how I do it). :)

Yep I agree with gothra's method. Thats what I did, I used to stroke her a few times first then put my hand in front of her whilst stroking her and then I'd pick her up round her belly and put her onto my hand. I would still keep my hand in the tank as they do like to jump when young because they are scared. Also keep your hands fairly flat because they don't like being held tightly.

Very young geckos tend to be more jumpy and scared than older ones plus 5 days isn't all that long to be adjusted to a new environment. I'd give him another week to settle in and then slowly start trying to handle him gently. I'm sure he'll get used to it after a while!
