If you're going to get XP you need to get it before June. They're pulling it off all shelves as of then.

I had Vista installed on my new Dell desktop, and I haven't had any problems with it whatsoever. My dad bought the upgrade and put it on his desktop, but experienced IE flickering. He has to buy some card to fix the problem. But the IE flickering is a common bug. He was using opera for a while, but decided to get the card so he could use IE again.

Also, with Vista you currently can't use certain programs. My mom is able to access her work computer from home with special keys and codes and whatnot, but with Vista she can't access it. We had to leave one desktop Vista free before they come out with a patch for it. There are a lot of complaints from people who are able to work from home like my mom does, so I assume they're working on that issue.

I've found that when changing over there are just a few things that I really had to get used to, but I guess it would depend on how much you use your computer and which programs you use.

Vista just released SP1 in the last 2 weeks, there will be multiple bugs and fixes just like XP etc. My laptop with XP crashed, now I have to use this BS. I so far dislike Vista and have had multiple problems. Never use a bundled virus protection like mcafee and n0rton etc. At the least use trend micro pc cillin and at the most use eset NOD32.

XP!! I currently have vista, I have found alot of software conflicts. Paul Sage, I recommend that you have AT LEAST 2gb of ram while running vista. Vista is a very visual OS, so it will require alot of ram.

It was a new Dell XPS desktop with 4 gigs of ram. My old laptop (XP) only has 512 but it was still faster. I had countless USB problems, my Macromedia software always caused it to freeze, and even with "updates" I had problems with all of the MS Office software I use (FrontPage, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint... I don't think I tried Excel though). If I can get that machine running again I'm just going to put XP on it. I didn't have a choice when I ordered it.

Thats odd. Did you uninstall bloatware (the crap software that comes with the computer)? I have a Sony Vaio with 4gb of ram running vista. My computer runs snappy fast.

My mom has a Dell laptop she ordered about 8 months ago. It has 3 gigs of ram and a seperate Nvideo video card. I helped her pick what to have with it. It runs pretty good but I like my desktop with Xp alot more.

I don't think Vista is as user friendly as XP. I'm still not used to Vista, and I'm still getting software errors even though I've had it for quite some time. I had to wait 3 weeks after getting Vista until they came up with the drivers to make my printer compatible. I think it's a huge waste of money.

If you can, go with XP. But I don't even think they make new PCs on XP anymore. I think everything has switched over to Vista. We have the first version of Vista and it's VERY strange....it messes up all of the time with wierd little things. Like for awhile, it wouldn't keep the time properly...and I've noticed it to be very susceptable to virus's intruding. We actually have had our Norton program ruined twice now on here with a virus destroying the program. So now we are on a different Virus program.

You'll have to pry XP outta my cold, dead hands! Microsoft is simply forcing users away from their OS cause of all it's "quirkyness". I'll seriously consider a Apple the next time I purchase a home PC.

By the way, there's a reason why corporate America hasn't converted to Vista yet. They have security concerns. :main_yes: ;)

If it has to be a pc then I would go with XP. Vista sucks!
