No I'm not talking the woma ball python color morph. I'm talking the woma python x ball python hybrid: the "wall". Here is a link to its photo:

This by far is one of the coolest snakes I have ever seen.... Normally hybrids don't really excite me, and I know some people really frown upon hybridization. But if money were not an option and all that other jazz... I would have this snake in a heartbeat. I want to find out as much as I can about this animal, it was produced by Ballroom Pythons South. Does anyone else have any information on this animal, or other ball python hybrids for that matter, please post and share your thoughts. Are you for or against hybrids? etc etc...

I have seen these pix before and liked the combo a lot. I told myself I would have to have some someday , or , make them myself.

Often times hybrids can be healthier then the original species especially if the parent gene pool is shallow. often times not. many times combos do not work and the genes don't mesh together will. I say if it ends up being healthy and looks awesome then why not.

I believe only two breeders are currently breeding them. The one you named and NERD. I know NERD has tried a few different hybrids and from the radio interview it seems like many hybrids are difficult to produce. I know balls can be crossed with Womas,Carpets and Burms. I would think that if they can be crossed with carpets then they could probably be crossed with green tree pythons and possibly black heads.
One thing I wonder about when trying to do the woma x ball cross is the womas appetite for other snakes. Could be dangerous to the ball.
The Hybrids arent for me, but I will admit some of them are hot looking snakes.

I think things will really start getting hot looking when people start breeding morphs into these hybrids. Then we will see some crazy stuff.

dare i state my opinion and say as beautiful as that animals is, i think they are getting rediculas with these python hybrids..... i think its pathetic that they are doing this. its one thing if it could happen in the wild. but comeon, a ball X woma, a ball X burm.... i think its just unessisary....IMO

I think a big problem comes into play if you get a breeder who crosses lets say for example a Carpet python to something like a Lesser platty ball to make lesser platty Carpet/ball hybrids. Then trys to out breed as much of the Ball python out of the hybrid so the snake looks like a pure carpet just with a funky pattern.
Then breeder turns and makes a lucy hybrid that is more carpet then ball but just doesnt tell anyone. And tries to make a small fortune off what he claims to be the first ever viable lucy carpet python. Just an example of what could possibly happen in the future with hybrids. And its pretty possible that something like this has already happen. Just think of all the funky morphs ball pythons have. Wouldnt be impossible for some shady person to try a cross of some sort into another python to do something like that.
oh well just my 2 cents and I know its a bunch of rambling. lol

Nevin, your point is valid and I do agree with you for the most part... The thing is that us, being people who breed animals in captivity, can not take a purist approach to the hybrid debate... When you breed animals of even the same species in captivity, you are throwing natural selection right out the window anyway... Add in all these funky morphs we breed and we step even further out of the realm of natural selection... Honestly, is it necessary to have 3 strains of albinos, blizzards, patternless, snows, Enigmas, and so on??? Is it necessary to combine those morphs and make genetically weaker animals because they look cool??? I mean, how many defects can you pack into one animal before it is unable to thrive??? These defective genetics are perpetually propagated into the captive leo population and no one bats an eye...

I think that people who do create hybrids are just going one or two steps beyond "purist breeders"... Unfortunately, it does not matter what you and I feel about unnatural hybrids... There will always be people who produce them and there will always be a market for them...

I have to agree with you Gregg. There's always going to be a market for cool looking hybrids because of how exotic they are. Regardless of what we think its going to happen, I think it mostly happens because of natural human curiosity... "Hmmmm I wonder what these will make... I know its not natural.... but I can't... resist!" One of those kinda things... But I do agree about the shady seller trying to make a buck off of a new "morph" that's actually a hybrid would be very wrong indeed.
